Wait, it can't find demon pits, can it? I thought that's what it meant by "bottomless pits", but they're not the same thing.

I think that "Other Features" may be for the demon pits. I'm not %100 sure, but it seems likely to me.

This is awesome. I wish you could search for roads, tunnels, and caves however.

Other Features are the HFS. With the HFS shown on the embark map, and the only option set to Yes being the other features, it goes to a place with the HFS every time.

Question about using this (completely awesome) tool: If it finds more than one suitable site how does one cycle between them?

I didn't have time to make it cycle, but it would be pretty easy to do.  I guess the only minor hassles are what to do with overlaps and just getting 10000+ matches.  It could pick one spot per several squares or something, or it could record them all and highlight the map squares where they exist, and let you scroll around from the finder or something.

In the future will this feature be less meta-gamey and require the civilization's knowledge of an area or some sort of actual prospecting team of dwarves to check and area, or whatever?

The knowledge of the deeper stone layers or even the map in general was already meta-gamey in that sense -- once your adventurers can mine, you can turn it off and do the prospecting yourself I suppose.  It would be a long time before there's something like abstract kingdom control and the ability to spend resources on an abstract prospecting team or something like that.

Wow, great. I wasn't planning on downloading the new version, but now that I know it won't take ages to find a suitable embark location, I figure I mights as well give dwarf mode another go.

now I have a small problem

do I want to start a new fortress to ensure me 100% certain things I want, or keep going and hope I find one? this fortress is already pretty big, I dont want to get rid of it now :(

First things first: this is awesome. Perfect. Has a couple issues.

Sand is, to me, as a glass fetishist, one of the more important parameters. As it actually pertains to gameplay options, I think it's an important parameter to have. If it's not too much trouble of course.

And a tangential issue, I thought the feature was broken at first as it couldn't find some pretty common (in my experience) combinations- 3x3, magma and cave river specifically. After manually searching for a while, it seems that it's been changed recently so that mountains often "spill over" into neighboring tiles... which is fine, except cave features don't appear in world map tiles that aren't mountains.

Either make it the old way, for mountains at least (it's nice that the same thing happens for coasts), or make features show up in some "oozing" mountains.

As it is, there are just too few sites with cave features.
