Excited, confused by new note system
« on: July 23, 2008, 10:29:45 am »

I can't manage to successfully leave a note.  It seems like every function (add, delete, change symbol, enter text) is mapped to ctrl-F10.  I've been able to start a note, and choose its symbol, but not choose its color or actually add any text.

Any pointers?

Upgrade to .39D and press (N)ote in main menu.  It's gonna be a handy new feature.   ;D

I had no problems, using  the +-*/ keys on the numpad.  I have remapped my keys from ctrl-5 & shift-5 to the * & / but I don't see that this would cause any problems?

Oh, crap, I just realized what's wrong.  I do some remappings to make DF playable on my laptop, so whenever I download a new release, I copy over data/init/interface.txt.  There must be some new entries there for the note system, that got clobbered when I copied over my old one.  I guess it defaults to ctrl-F10 if the line is missing from the interface file.

Edit: Yup, that was the trouble.  What a great addition!  Just the day before this was announced, I was wishing for some kind of in-game to-do list, but this is so much better.   I'll just have some area of my fort designated as the to-do list spot.  :-)

I did the same thing. I wish Toady would just mention whether or not he's made changes to the init folder contents in each new version.

the init.txt has some more options in it now too, for the new site search feature.
