Hi, I always wanted to play DnD for long time. What do you think about we start a DnD game of ours? Preferably on openrpg, irc or fantasy grounds.

I'd play, but, sadly, I've never actually read the Game Rulebooks. I'm sure I could pick it up rather fast, since it only took me a week or so to grasp the advanced parts of the warhammer tabletops. I also play ALOT of old school CRPGS (The ones set in DnD themes and worlds, with appropriate rules).

Sure, I'll play. DnD 3.5 or 4? I like 3.5 better, but it has some balance issues... Can we include the Book of Nine Swords? Makes fighters more powerful. I could... erm... "lend" it to you.

Actually, that's a good point. I didn't think about it but I wouldn't be into 3E-4E anyway.

You could eat pizza and cheetos alone, and just read different rulebooks.

But who would eat pizza and cheetos together?

I'm up for it.

4th ed hasn't impressed me yet.  3.5 at least is known and dependable.

I play a mix of 3.0 and 3.5 rulebooks, fudging rules where they don't add up.  All of my cores are 3.0, but I have supplements all the way to 3.5.

I have 1E, 2E, and 3.0 stuff. Whoever is DMing (I asusme Kyselina) would just need to say which.

BTW if you use BO9S you might as well be playing Dark Sun or Spelljammer or something. Obviously it's still D&D but it's ... different. Not better or worse.

I compare it to using the Oriental Adventures with a 1E group.

I think that me dming would result in the DnD destroy itself out of stupidity.

I have a character sheet.

I always kinda sorta wanted to play DnD, but never could get together with my DnD playing friends. Finally made a character before the school year ended, but plans sorta fell apart after that. What we need is a DF based campaign. We'd have to limit our initial party to seven people, though.

EDIT: My character sheet doesn't list it (our would-have-been DM wouldn't let me,) but if I do play I demand a trained war ferret.

Some years ago, I played DnD 3.5 with some friends once in a while (i.e. one night every couple months) and I never really understood how anything worked.  Oh I had lots of fun, mainly because I didn't care about the functional results.  I'd get help making the character, do whatever seemed cool at the time, and roll the dice I was told to roll.

I've played pretty much every DnD based Bioware/Obsidian PC game, and every one seemed to rely on a different set of mechanics.  I approached them all with my usual tactic of "take what sounds cool and do what seems fun", and without a GM to keep things moving, I either fall back to no-frills warrior or get my butt handed to me.

I've also thumbed through the new 4th edition and it looks like voodoo to me.  I'm hardly an expert, but it appears to have simultaniously become more arbitrary, less imaginative, and expressly designed for powergaming.

I'd still love to take part in an online game of any sort.  If I had the option, I'd suggest GURPS.  It came recommended to me by Howard Tayler, and it is crunch and mutability at it's finest.  Just some d6's and point-based check-numbers.  It can also keep track of limb damage, necessary to any recreation of DF.

I demand a trained war ferret.

Let's use my trained ferret to steal that diamond.

If you're opening it up to systems other than D&D ... there are simple free ones out there we could get started with. That way it's more accessible to people who have never played a PnP RPG. And after all, you can usually play the same game with simple rules or complex rules and it's still fun :P

I just got into an online D&D 3.5e gaming group a few weeks ago.  I'm signed up with this site called "In the Time of Heroes".

This site is fantastic.  You sign up as a new player and they have a group of administrators who do everything for you.  They sign you up with a group of players on a specific date, they give you all of the programs to download (Chat software, maptools) and then there is a 3 week training period before you actually begin playing.

You don't have to have any D&D experience at all or even the books.  They train you on everything you need and help you generate a character.  It's all completely free of charge.  All you have to do is sign up and they will give you a trainer, a DM and a great group to play with.

Each session lasts only about 1 1/2 hour on a day that is convenient for you.  They store your character sheet in an easy-to-use Oracle Database.

I totally recommend it -as I'm having tons of fun with it so far.  Something I haven't been able to do on my own because groups are hard to get together on a time schedule.
