Okay, so I had one imported aluminum bar and one locally made bar. I ordered my blacksmith to make various aluminum items, but despite two untasked bars being located in the forge, he refused to make any two-bar furniture. I finally ordered him to make a bucket and he hopped right to it, so now I have two aluminum buckets. The only explanation I can think of is that dwarves refuse to mix home-made and imported materials in crafting, which seems like a bug to me.

some items require 3 bars, this could prove a bottleneck with only 2 bars available.
yeah..i think armour and furnature are I don't recall exactly. (wiki it)
yes furniture requires 3 bars, heavy body armour 3 or 2...

Well, I know that weapon racks only require two, since I was forced to make some real quickly-like on account of a mandate earlier today.

There are plenty of furniture pieces that only require two bars - thrones, for example. The smith refused to make any of these.

The wiki (linked to above) disagrees with you

It's wrong. Unless the game has a typo in it where the message "Urist McDwarf cancels forge silver Weapon Rack: needs two silver bars." EDIT: appears occasionally.

That means he needs two MORE bars. I'm very sure of this because I keep getting error messages from my cooks stating "Moldath McChef cancels prepare roast: needs 3 cookable items," or something along those lines, when I only have one cookable item. Or something similar to that.

I don't see why the smith's error messages should be structured differently.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Ah. That would be the reason then.
Carry on.

I checked the wiki before posting this, and I quote: "Forging a bucket uses one metal bar. Most furniture needs two; anvils, cages, bins, barrels, and pipe sections need three." - From the Blacksmith article.

So which is right and which is wrong?
