I have UT2004, UT, and Unreal Gold.  I bought that pack they released when they moved to Midway for publishing.  The only problem is that my internet is crap, and I'll ping in at 200+ if I play over the internet.  The only mod I have for 2004 is Chaos UT2, which is fun, if not designed by apparently egotistical people with a very bizarre sense of humor (I really hate the voices for those Proxy Mines.).

A step-by-step guide to DotA:

1. Pick from an excessively large list of heroes, and pray you get one of the few that can actually do anything.----------

                                                If you pick the wrong hero, skip to step 7.
2. Kill creeps.

3. Level up.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have -Insert Power Item Build That's Just Like the One Everyone Else Has, Again With Many Other Items that are Useless-

5. Kill heroes

6. Kill the base.

Alternate Steps for if you don't know what you're doing.

7. Get killed a lot.

8.  Have SardinhoBR and XxX_AbAdDoN_XxX call you a noob.

9.  Watch as everyone leaves, because you suck so much.

10. Joyfully play other games, and never touch the abominable game again.

I'm gonna see if I can find the UT2004 demo now, if it's good I might buy it.

I'm pretty sure you are familiar with UT2k4's commentator. After all, it's the same voice ripped off by DOTA.

Ahhh... 2k4... I should organize a lan party to play all the different mods of that game again. I particularly enjoyed it when Spawn gunned down Master Chief in an Apache helicopter.

Not surprised that the commentator was stolen.  IceFrog stole the whole game.  I can't remember who originally made it, but he made DotA: All Stars without permission, and stuck his name all over it.  Since it was so much "Better" than the old one, it pushed out the real DotA.

My favorite moments include sniping manta drivers out of the cockpit with a lightning gun. Man... Or shooting down a raptor with a leviathan main cannon.

Is 2004 the one with melee weapons?

Your basic weapon is an impact hammer / shield. Pretty self explanatory.

There are many many melee mods out there including martial arts, matrix, swords, lightsabers, etc. Really, you can't play UT without mods. It's why even in the game setup menu, the mod list is sitting right there. Staples include low gravity, suicide vehicles, more weapons, skins, wahahahaha, man. Nostalgia!

Umiman, I'm surprised your favorite moments don't include blammo'ing people with the orbital ion cannon.  But, seeing as you included raptor-blasting, it's acceptable.

I remember having quite a bit of fun slicing people in half while zipping around in a Scorpion...  And getting my laser-net-thingy shooting skills down so I could wrap a nice big charge around whatever happened to be passing by...  Damn I loved that thing.


The AI was kinda funny...  The demo only had two vehicle assault maps, one little forested area and a big open plains battle (my favorite, naturally).  Funny thing about the plains battle was that there was always, ALWAYS some bot who decided to hijack a raptor, fly up to the top of  this big tower that was in the middle of the map, pick up the redeemer and then shoot me with it.

I died far too many times before I figured out what the heck was actually going on.  I didn't even know there was a redeemer pickup, until I observed someone moving around up top there and then saw a mini-nuke coming at me.

I don't really like the vanilla ion cannon in UT. It's tiny and quite lame. Well, it's cool to see your enemies turn into skeletons when it hits, but still. Having to stand still for a minute while it "loads" is quite annoying. I like the leviathan main cannon more.

There was this modded version which shot a huge ass beam of light that you could control around the map. Totally imbalanced. Totally cool.

hmmm memorable stock UT moments... heh,I have the editors choice edition(and the original version,I got almost all Unreal series games)
I'd fly high in a cicada look down for a good long time(provided I didn't let those freeking bots use shock rifles)then when I find a victim on foot... SMASH

I know you can do it with the manta,but the gunners seat has a nice flare to misdirect those avrils.

My favorite mod for UT2004 was probably RoadKillWarriors. A mad max type destruction derby. Absolutely awesome. Yeah the mods in UT2004 are definitely what make the game stand out from the crowd of other fast paced shooters.
