[39c] Magma forge can use iron anvils
« on: July 21, 2008, 11:36:05 am »

As the title states, my  magma forge is using iron anvils, but my regular forge needs a magma-safe anvil. I think this is a bug heh, but I'm not complaining.

Normal forges can use iron anvils ...

And magma forges should be able to use non-magma-safe anvils, because the magma doesn't heat the anvil; it heats the metal bars, which are then shaped on the anvil.  In this way, it's no different from a coal-fired forge.

Yup, if you've been busting your butt getting 3 bars of steel before you could start magmaforging, you've been wasting your time.

Also, iron is magmasafe. Has been for several versions now.

Hmm, is it possible to make an anvil out of anything but iron and steel?  If your normal forge requires "magma-safe" things that sounds buggy.

If you don't have any anvils, you'll get the message "needs fire-safe anvil" when attempting to build a forge.

I believe somebody modded in plump helmet anvils, which can't be used in any forge...

I had an artifact aluminum anvil once, worked fine in my forge.

Ordinarily, yeah, you can only make anvils from iron and steel. (I'm not sure if this is hardcoded or a temp thing.) However, special events (such as moods and bugs) can create anvils from other materials.

I seem to recall someone many versions ago, when dwarves held onto their artifacts, a moody dwarf produced a lead anvil... and then hauled it around with him for the rest of his life. Needless to say, he didn't accomplish much, other than hauling around three tons of anvil. =P
