Hi there, somewhat boggling problem.

I'm not sure whether this is a bug or something to do with my stockpiles / job assignments but I've noticed that my
dwarfs (about 20+) aren't using bins and barrels for storing prepared food (barrels), ammo, finished crafts or basically anything binnable.

Most of the dwarfs have full hauling jobs enabled and my bins / barrels are in abundance and all stockpiles are at max barrel / bin reservation.

To fleshout the picture a bit:

Most of my food piles have stacks of plants, plump helmets prepared food hanging about the place whereas in older versions it would all stocked away in containers.Mind you all drinks are still being put into barrels properly and the dwarfs do put plants into barrels in the food stockpile.

Similarly weapons, ammo and finished goods, gems , cloth etc would all be crammed in bins and barrels previously but now are not. Not one bin is being used at all for
item stockpiles.

Would this be classed under Cleaning or to specific hauling as a job? (food, item etc)
Also would it be affected by barrels / bins being reserved - although as stated no bin has actually been used at all.

The reserved bins/barrels is a global thing, not specific to a stockpile.  If you set the number of reserved bins/barrels to the max in the 'p' menu, then dwarves won't store items in them until you have more than whatever the max is (something absurdly high, I think).  Instead they reserve them.

If, on the other hand, what you meant to say is that each stockpile has the maximum allowed barrels/bins (through the 'q' menu on that stockpile) then I would guess you need to check your enabled labors.  Putting things in bins requires whatever hauling job corresponds to the items you're putting in the bins.

So, you have reserved barrels and bins for other than stockpiling duties, so dwarfs aren't using them.

Thanks guys; i'm a dolt - yeah it was the global reservation (p) that was stopping them - I reduced the reserved barrels and bins to a smaller number and now they are storing everything properly.
