Not really. It's generally accepted that the "average" shambler or runner can starve to death.

Why the hell am I being so scientific about fiction!?

Except that if like 90% of the population is Zombies (which is the usual number for Zombie Apocalypses i think, or thereabouts) they will almost certainly get you before they starve.

You have to get lucky every single time, they only have to get lucky once.

What if nanotech goes wrong and controls people, forcing all its carriers to live without artistic or creative efforts and purely for the maintenance of the group. While seeking to infect the entire population to eliminate threats. It might look a great deal like a zombie apocalypse in many ways, but I am not sure it would qualify. Zombies that can reproduce doesn't seem right to me...

Which is why you establish as well-stocked a fort as you can. If one person can hold out against the zombies for 10~ days, then ge will, in that time, attract hundreds of zombies. His flesh can only go so far in feeding them, and if that scenario repeats itself a couple of times, bam, hundreds of starved-dead zombies with only 4-5 new ones being produced. Not even factoring in any zombies that they killl by hand. Certainly not that big of a dent in the global population, but after some work, you could drain the local population and have a large, zed free area to fortify which will attract more survivors. Then, this larger area can starve out even more zombies and kill even more before they are overrun. It's like putting an infinite drain smack dab in the middle of the shambling horde.

No offence, but it isnt so much the radiation that kills them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd1IFjBNNVo
That's a thermonuclear bomb, or fusion bomb, IF any idiot wishes to screw our chances of rebuilding society, this would probably be the least harmfull one, due to not all power coming from the plutonium, thus creating less radiation matter over a larger area. Still would mean that we will not be able to properly rebuild there for at least 500 years or so, without a gigantic chance of mutilated children.

Face it; without heavy industry, hundreds (or even thousands) of people and months (or years) of preparation as well as nigh-unlimited resources, surviving a Zombie apocalypse is effectively impossible.
I do not agree with you on that. Humans are very resourcefull.

That bombs crater was 1.2 miles wide, and the shockwaves and radiation baked all the life off the islands before blowing them to hell with a supersonic shockwave.

I'd prefer a world that is not ruled by idiots who thing Thermonuclear or nuclear weapons in general are funny things to fire when you want to...

This tends to get to a point where the world becomes uninhabitable...

This is why we need to develop inter-planetary missiles, so we can launch them at Mars and watch the fireworks. Also, space/high atmosphere detonations are fun, a nice blue/white orb with circular blue shock wave. Especially fun because it unleashes an EMP on the people below.

... You guys are idiots.

Mars is probably the most important planet in out system right now, save earth.
