Welcom to Idorushat, frosty traders
« on: July 19, 2008, 01:32:57 pm »

They're all dead!  :P

So i'm on a glacier, at Idorushat or Howlbasements. My trade depot is still open to the sky, i'm working on a roof to my big ice tower keep. So all the traders animals die after they wait for awhile. It's all my butcher can do to keep up.  :P

Also means i get a lot of free goods. Oh, and every now and then some kobolds die near the edge of the map.

The dwarf traders survived, but the elves are freezing as we speak.

Will people stop freezing to death once i finish the roof?

I wonder if they'll ever wise up and use muskoxen.

Sentient creatures freeze to death so easily now? What about heat? I want to see random kittens exploding in flame.

Unfortunately not to death. Just to cripplage. Crawl away elves, crawl away as fast as you can!

Ugh, just got migrants. Apparently it's too cold for them to use outside and ice level meeting areas. I guess i'll have to go ahead of schedule and puncture the aquifer now.

Hah, crawling around babbling.  :P

Eugh. Way too cold. None of my meeting areas can be used since it's too cold. All the trader's animals die. Aquifer is way deeper than i thought.

And worst of all, i can't figure out a way to keep it all quadrilaterally symmetrical.  :P (stupid ore deposits messing up the aquifer)

So i abandoned and Play Now!ed an adventurer. Turns out theres a temperature below freezing called deathly cold. Well that explains things...

I'm going to try something like this again, but i'm going to use a shallower glacier (this one had 4 z-levels of ice and about 3 z-levels of aquifer) with a shallow aquifer to make my own ice for building instead of relying on multiple z-levels of ice. I really liked that tower, only problem i had was i couldn't decide what i wanted the inside to look like. I think i'll try too keep everything above ground next time.

I think i just discovered why people write blogs.  :P

... You do realize that a typical glacier has more ice then you will ever use?

No, quite a few of them only have one z-level of ice. Quite vexing.

That is... a very odd glacier. Was it flat or mountainous?

My first glacier fort had only one z-level of ice. It was still more ice than I ever used by far.

That's cuz you didn't make a huge citadel made entirely out of ice.  ;)

I'm trying again on a new world. Naming the new fortress Idorushat to match the thread title if nothing else.  :P
