Trying to gen a one tile island

- you know, like in the devlog.  I've tried setting up a painted map like that, but no matter what settings I save or randomize I get infinite rejects at temperature.

Anybody who's figured this thing out (more than me for sure) got any ideas?

If you 'n'ullify all the minimum parameters it should stop your rejects (assuming it can find a civ placement, you might need to mess with that or add some mountains by other biomes).  But once you get that working, you might have to try quite a few seeds and look at them with the legends mode 'd'etailed map -- most one tile islands spill between tiles.

Wow, didn't expect a reply from... the original map maker.  I should have realized that was the problem - I'm not adapted to living at night yet.

Dissabled all the minimum parameters, but now I'm getting infinite rejects at history initialization.  I imagine it's not finding a place to put starting civ locations or something.  Will I have to modify the raws, or can the stock civs still start on a map like this?

 I think you just need to make sure there is a biome for every civ. A forest for elves, a grassland for humans, a mountain for dwarves and the same for gobbos.

 And watch for savagery. Civ's won't be placed in places too savage.

When I was testing one tile islands, I made most of the world an ocean, with tons of 1 tile islands, but I also drew a smallish normal place down in one corner for it to stick some civs.  You can also increase your chances at a real 1 tile island if you (1) make the island elevations low (2) make the adjacent ocean elevations low.  The downside is that if you make the ocean too low, you'll allocate a lot of z levels, so you can try to strike a balance.  I think something like 105 next to 80 ought to work often enough.

Got it all working fine now.  It just doesn't seem to want to make the island small enough.  I'll have to keep playing with it.  Thanks Toady.  And thanks for the help too.

Build a fort on a true island obviously.  No point, I just loved seeing that video and really wanted to try it.  I guess it could be used for a community game of some kind, though getting migrants would obviously be a problem.

I think I'm gonna be at this a while.  I am loving how random and organic the islands look now, even if they just won't skrink.

Yup, that's the one.  Toady made it during development to show us the improvements.
Or just show off his ability to wrangle some rhesus macaques with recruits.  One of the two.
