Operation: Kill all Kitties

Catsplosions - my ultimate bane, right after dwarf eating elfs.

My current kitty population is about 80, 30 of which I managed to get into cages. Now I have to slaughter the rest, and I ain't sure how to go about doing so. So I built a raised bridge, and a room to stick it in. My current train of thought is soldier all the cat owners up, chuck them in the room, get as many cats as possible inside, pet restrict the door, get the soldiers out, and squish go the cats as they are smashed by the awesome power of dwarven engineering. What I am worried is causing a tantrum cycle. Do pet deaths stack as thoughts? If they do, what other options do I have?

atom smash the owners with them. and have a REALLY great dining room.

Thats not an option, the owners are all part of my original 7, and I have yet to lose one of them in any of my forts. Plus one just had a baby, and I am doing no immigration bar the first 3 to act as servants  :D.

try and get the owners in a really happy locked room. check wheter they are relativly bad thought free, and then atomsmash teh kittys.

Even better way it to make a "cat"-a-pult with your drawbridge.

Make everyone a soldier, so when they go through the pet-restricted door and the pets get squashed the soldiers are all together. If anyone tantraums, well, the others are there to deal with it. :)

You could control the emotional damage by making each one of the death traps in the kitten death cell only one tile big.

For your future fortresses,consider having only 4 adult cats in your fortress on pest control,and butchering and kittens that 'pop' out.

Thats what I tried to do, but it all fell down as the kitties began to enjoy the company of my Miners more than large wooden boxes  ;)

*has a look at the raws* Cats in cages dont age right? So if I changed the MAXAGE of all cats to say, 1 day...

You could always pull the "Nuclear catsplosion" card if you're feeling up to modifying some raws.

Set the burning temp of cats ridiculously low.

Suffice to say, it lived up to its name...

Set the burning temp of cats ridiculously low.

Suffice to say, it lived up to its name...

 Then set the tag that makes every body part fly off in the event of extreme temperature change.

 Although I don't know the effect on this if you are making them evaporate.

should be able to assign kittens to bags then dump 'em in the water.  :'(

AFAIK dumped containers lose their contents...not cages though.
unless that has recently changed.
