You don't have to, I've been using the "Demo" version for, like, 4 years or something.
Also, if you want a crazy project, take the little guard tower I built on the SW corner of the bridge, build 3 more like that at each corner of the bridge, then build them up to the top Z level and floor the whole map. BAM! Mr. Burns style sun-blocker. Huge, totally pointless, and extremely time consuming.

*facepalm*  Yes, PMing me would have probably helped.  I had thought I had some time, but since the previous person canceled, I suppose not.  Let's see where this goes now that I'm leading again!

The depths demand more sacrifices.

Also, the dungeon fortress floor is on an incline. Angry dwarves cannot play marbles.

I've completed the first two months of spring...

1st Granite, 1058:

Today I was selected to resume leadership of Líthrushsazír, The Fetid Bridge, despite promises to me of time to spend with my growing family.   A lot has happened since I last led this fortress.  First off, I have given birth to two more fine sons and two beautiful daughters, who are sure to grow up to be fine strong dwarves like their parents.  Kib, my husband, and their proud father, has not only recovered from his broken leg, but has gained the rank of champion!  His full title is Kib Mirroredplay the Clean Drain of Pricing.  Given Kib's position as a senior officer of the military, in command of The Blanketed Letters, which includes such legends as our mighty Captain Affy, he has recieved the title of Colonel.  May he lead our brave soldiers to victory!

For my part, I have continued my position as record keeper and master stone crafter, and it is said that I am a legend in both fields.

6th Granite, 1058:

The construction of the future tombs of me and my husband has began.  I just hope we will not have to use them any time soon.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

11th Granite, 1058:

Sodel Ducimikal, one of our carpenters, has created a most marvelous animal trap!  I've drawn a sketch below:

14th Granite, 1058:

The elves have arrived!  Let us see what they have to trade...

20th Granite, 1058:

I have discovered why merchants always insist on taking the long way around instead of using the bridge to the depot:  The bridge only spans halfway across the pit!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

5th Slate, 1058:

Captain Affy has at last achieved the rank of champion!

12th Slate, 1058:

Today I noticed something quite remarkable.  Northwest of the bridge, there is what appears to be a swimming pool for groundhogs.  I have no idea why a groundhog would want to go for a swim, yet there they are.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

28th Slate, 1058:

Immigrants have arrived!  I hope they can all find ways to make themselves useful.

1 Animal Dissector
1 Furnace Operator
1 Jeweler
1 Gem Setter
2 Fisherdwarves
1 Fish Dissector
1 Milker
1 Miller
1 Tanner
1 Soap Maker
1 Potash Maker
2 Lye Makers
4 Peasants

Is it even possible to find a group with more useless skills?!

Yeah I've seen them while I've been playing. It started out as one groundhog, but she must have multiplied. I've ben thinking about digging them a staircase so that they can get out

I want to see how many groundhogs can get crammed into that little swimming pool first =p
Alternatively: target practice for our marksdwarves. I notice none of them are even elite yet despite years of me cranking out practice bolts for them...

Could be because Captain Affy always gets to the enemies first.

Who decided to expand the pit and not build a second bridge?

Also, is the lever for the bridges still linked to both the east and west bridges+the inner bridges? We should make separate levers.

I have no idea how those bridges are connected.  Looks like they might be.  I'd test the lever, except that there are dwarves scurrying all over the bridges.  There also looks to be a second lever that isn't actually connected to anything at all.
