Captain Affy rocks ass. When she becomes a champion she will be a one dwarf army for the fortress. And she will also be the most dangerous founding member since she is the only one of the founders in a military position. :P

Affy already *is* a one dwarf army. Mostly owning to the fact that she makes contact with what ever is attacking before the rest of her squad (or scruga's) manages to get itself out of the dining hall.
She also has more kills than most of the megabeasts.
I think her full title is something like Capitan of the Guard Affy "Zoomboots" "Woodchipper" "Diamondbodiced" "Someothertitlethatdosn'tfitinthescreen" Whatever Her Last Name is.

Don't worry I didn't actually add the "zoomboots" or "woodchipper" part in her actual name, they just seem apt.

Just be careful you don't run her at a large group of bow/crossbow armed invaders, they'll wreck her day, iron plate < iron bolts, unfortunately. But after the trapped bridge causes the foes to start fleeing, station her right next to the fleeing (and probably crippled) foes, and watch her play golf with their recently severed limbs.

Well I'm downloading the save to check her out in Legends.

Edit:
Her full name is "Captain Affy Bodicediamond the Frightful Weathering of Slipping," and yes she is a killer alright with multiple dwarves on her concience.

Yeah, basically, when ever I saw a "So and so, Guard Has bled to death" I was like, ahh Affy, you do so much to remove dead-weight from this fortress. Compare her vis a vis some of the megabeasts. Not that many have more kills than she does.

Hey bootcamp is to remove those who do not have the killer in them right?
Well there are few megabeast that lived beyond year 550 here, and thus Affy has the most important kills. There was a Titan though with over a hundred kills there, but only two or three important ones.

She should get her own statue to show for all the great work (killing) she has done for the fortress, she is a legendary miner too.

By the way Kaz, stuff is all kinds of a mess, dwarves need job assignments in some cases, or to be reassigned in others (how many craftsmakers do we *really* need?), stock piles need to be made, and more staircases built to facilitate faster movement of dwarves. No body is idle right now because there's a LOT of hauling to do! mostly because stuff is so far away it takes a dwarf a few days to complete one hauling task. (Ahh the joys of several conflicting design strategies and play philosophies)

I had a look round and I see what you mean. I took stock of what was going on and faced with trying to sort out the chaos I did what anyone would do, I added to it by demanding large construction projects. :)

Done. I decided a haunted bridge fortress isn't doing it properly without a large temple to something dark where you make sacrifices. Took the whole year to do and there is 1 important thing left to do, but as it's just pulling a specific lever in a month or so I'm going to discount that.  :P

Quote
Journal of Kazindir Thronecrypt

1st Granite 1067
I arrived at Lithrushsazir today, crossing the magnificent bridge to be greeted by a grumpy dwarf who claimed I was late.
The valley beneath the bridge is full of abandoned timber, event he brook is full of dead wood. Hm.

4rd Granite
I have toured the fortress now, although I still have no idea where most things are or why. It is of no matter though, missing things can be rebuilt.

7th Granite
One of the marksdwarves has given birth to a baby boy!

8th Granite
The Countess has announced she has forgotten a demand. How does she know she's forgotten it if she's forgotten?

12th Granite
An elf was sighted skulking around some trees.

15th Granite
The elven caravan was spotted.

20th Granite
These last nights I've been sleeping terribly, plagued with bad dreams and loud noises.

24th Granite
The countess says the elf wanted us to stop cutting down trees. She said no. He said ok.

25th Granite
I know what I must do, all has become clear to me! hat this place really needs above all is divine intervention.
All available dwarves not in essiantial jobs have been assigned to mining.

27th Granite
A vein of sphalerite has been discovered at the site of the great temple, truely the Gods smile on us!

28th Granite
Rimtar reports he's traded some drinks for some stone trinkets with the elves.
The taxcollector has ordered that no mittens are to be exported. Fair enough.

14th Slate
The elves have left and a Guard bled to death somewhere.

20th Slate
Order put in for a lot of corkscrews and pipes, mining work contrinues apace!

11th Felsite
A woodworker has been blessed and has withdrawn from society, claiming a carpenters workshop.

16th Felsite
Vakistaran, an Alder hatch cover.
All craftdwarfship if of the highest quality. On the item is an image of Aspuz Weresquashes the goblin and Captain Affy Bodicediamond the Frightful Weathering of Slipping the dwarf in alder. Captain Affy bodicediamond, the Frightful weathering of Slipping is striking down Aspuz Weresquashes. The artwork related to the killing of the goblin Aspuz Weresquashes by the dwarf Captain Affy Bodicediamond the Frightful Weathering of Slipping in the Fetid Bridge in the early winter of 1056, during Unmumuz, "The Gory Attack".
On the item is an image of The Muscular Strangers, the schist crown in alder.

14th Hematite
A human diplomat has arrived.

15th Hematite
A vile force of darkness has arrived!
Scouts report around 35 trained goblins in three groups, each led by a legendary leader, two of which appear to be elves.

16th Hematite
Everyone is inside now except for the guards, who are in position.
The human diplomat thinks this is a good diea to try and hold a meeting, idiot.

17th Hematite
Ah, the human is suing for peace. Peace is calling out to us, he says.
Fool, we will drown her out with the screams of his dying.
Uvash, the mayor, was re-elected for that.

19th Hematite
The goblins are just milling around outside, out of crossbow range. This is what happens when you put an elf in charge.

20th Hematite
The goblins have stopped poncing around and are charging the main gate. The marksdwarves are giving a good accounting of themselves and managed to shoot down one of the elves as he entered the courtyard.

22nd Hematite
Captain Affy has somehow got outside the walls alone. She is unsupported so I'm not sure what her squad is doing but she is giving the golin horde a good kicking all the same.

23rd Hematite
The leaders of the horde lay dead and the horde has broken and is fleeing. The group from the west, which was almost unscathed so far after spending some time chasing the human diplomat around, made the mistake of trying to escape over the bridge. The weapons traps cut them all down.
Affy, her squad having caught up with her, chased down the rest of them, only slowing occaisionally to be sick. We suffered no losses.

Finally excavation can resume.

15th Malachite
WHY AREN'T MY PLATINUM STATURE BEING FORGED?!

9th Galena
Another baby boy has been born and the cleanup operation formt he goblins is still going on.

14th Galena
The miners have struck cassiterite at the bottom level of the temple. Meanwhile my statues have finally been finished and installed.

12th Limestone
A vile force of darkness has arrived!
Goblins from the north, west and south. Captain Affy has taken command of her squad and ordered all the none military dwarves inside.

13th Limestone
Lir Mengfath clearly didn't take being replaced by Captain Affy very well, for he imemdiately disobeyed orders and charged the elite bowgoblin instead rather than staying behind to wall until she drew close. Support was rushed out but he was dea by the time it arrived.

14th Limestone
The western goblin force has been crushed and Scruga he officially been promoted to Hammerdwarf.

<second entry>
One of the marksdwarves on the walls was shot and killed by a goblin.

<third entry>
The goblins have been driven off and the dwarvencaravan has arrived, although their wagons were diverted to avoid the battle.

26th Limestone
Much beer has been bought off the dwarven caravan and Keldor has given birth to another child. She now has three sones and two daughters.

27th Limestone
The Countess has given birth to a baby boy. Apparantly he really like cows mooing.

28th Limestone
The tax collector has insisted that we make more bolts for the crossbows. An easy demand to satisfy, as the bone carvers have been making bolts constantly all year.

5th Timber
Work on the temple goes well! The captured goblins have been moved to a new stockpile.

8th Timber
A child, Lir Desiscatten has become possessed and run to a craftdwarf shop. Surely this is a good sign!!

16th Timber
Scruga has become a Hammer Lord.
The child has reappeared, brandishing a bracelet.
Thetustizeg, "The Purged Apes", a gypsum bracelet. Decorated with turtle shell and encircled with bands of goblin bone, this object is adorned with hanging rings of gympsum and menaces with spikes of gypsum, muskox leather, horse leather and purple spinel. On the item is an image of dogs in giant cave spider silk. On the item is an image of a dog in zinc.
The children of the Bridge are becoming legends, three of them so far are known far and wide.

16th Moonstone
Another vile force of darkness has arrived!
It seems the goblins have been training hard as there are many reknowned goblin warriors amongst them. And the odd elf.

19th Moonstone
The goblins were beaten off, but many wardogs died and Nish Kemsorfeb Gebrodum, Hammerdwarf came off decidedly worse for wear, with both his arms mangled and cuts on his elbow and spine.

20th Moonstone
One of the marksdwarves has given birth to a baby girl on the battlements. At least the siege was over.

6th Opal
Part of the moat and watersource canal froze over this morning. I didn't realise it got so cold here.

21st Opal
The Temple is complete! Just as the final slab was laid, the river thawed and now the waters flow into the top veins of the temple and begin to head down into the deep.

4th Obsidian
The maintenance shaft has been sealed off and the Deep is filling up nicely.
Meanwhile Scruga has been training hard as new has reached us that he has been recognised in the mountainhomes as a legendary champion!

17th Obsidian
It is soon time!
Two captive goblins are to be given to the churning depths as the first of many offerings to consecrate the Temple.

25th Obsidian
Kutsmob has been cast into the depths and Ngerxung will shortly follow. Dostngosp will be kept for future ceremonies, such as the next siege to lend us strength then.
The ceremony drew attention from many dwarves, with lots of them interrupting their work to come and watch the goblins plummet into the deep.

26th Obsidian
Our sacrifices have been well received! Sodel Ducimikal, carpenter, has been taken by a fey mood as a result!

1st Granite
My work here is done. There are some small masonry jobs outstanding on the Temple but the construction itself is complete so only minor details remain. Most important of these is to make a note to pull the northern most of the two levers above the Temple at the proper time I shall mark it on the map for future overseers.

Fun year, three goblin sieges, desperately trying to stop the construction of the Temple, and one big construction prety much completed! :D

A note on the Temple. The platform int he middle has some pit zones (for thowing goblins off) and all the statued areas are statue gardens - that way dwarves hang around there. Many of them leave ecstatic, although tat has more to do with the platinum statues, mist and engravings than anything sinister.....OR DOES IT?!  ;D

Above the Temple, where the canals fullen the water into it, there are two levers.
 - The SOUTHERN lever is connected to a gear assembly along the axle from the waterwheels. Pull it to stopthe pumps, pull it again to restart them. Just a safety/maintenance thing.
 - The NORTHERN lever is a floodgate. Pull the lever to close the floodgate which will block the Temple from the brook.

The NORTHERN lever needs pulling after about a month or so, once the water level at the bottom of the Temple has reached around here.

That will ensure the system has enough water in it to make a continuous waterfall and stop the fortress from slowly flooding. Handy if you want to avoid the Fetid Bridge becoming the Sunken Bridge. ;)

Nice update, vagel's turn now.

By the way, are the human's still our enemies? We shouldn't accept their offerings of peace. The temple needs human sacrifices, so build cage traps.

They should be. That bit I quoted was our actual in game response - it went something like:

Human: Peace is calling out to us, how will you respond?
Countess: "We will drown her out with the screams of your dying."

After that he said it was a great honour visiting us and left, then got chased off the map by goblins. :D

I'm wondering what exactly set them at our throats in the first place? Was it my collapsing of their hilariously-huge all Alder bridge? What can I say, I needed wood for the furnaces. a LOT of wood. and trees take too long to grow  :P
