I was trading with some elves, and they made a counteroffer with some animal products in it.



To my suprise, they accepted the offer.



Oh, those crazy hypocritical elves.

First they decide that eating people is a good thing, now they don't even pretend that their false beliefs are the truth.

I've noticed that they stick animal products and such in their counteroffer, but never thought to report it. I just thought "Stupid elves, you know you don't want that stuff." Then I just replaced the "bad" items, assuming that I'd scare them away if I accepted it, so I hadn't ever seen that they would accept it.

(I should mention that was in earlier 38 versions, I haven't had a chance to play with the 39 ones yet.)

I just sold an elf bone bracelet and earring to them and they didn't complain. Is this a bug or are elves just less picky these days?

I don't think the people who come to your fortress are real people from the world, but it's entirely possible.

Does somebody have a save where such a counteroffer is made regularly?  I just checked, and the counter offer items are all checked against the civ ethics.

I don't think the people who come to your fortress are real people from the world, but it's entirely possible.
They get added to hist. figs. if you kill, say, a kobold thief, so I assume everything that comes to your fort (except megabeasts?) is generated on-the-spot.

Is it possible that the thief or whatever wasn't considered important enough for the legends screen until it came to your fortress?

I might, the next time the elves come 'round.
 
Last time they were at my fort (in 39c) they counteroffered, and included a mule leather glove.

But I saw a goblin as a human liaison, so I think some of the importans historical figures DO visit your fortress.

I should clarify that the counteroffers I've seen from the elves were from 38c and prior. I haven't met them yet in 39.

Getting counteroffers from elves in 39c, every time they ask for some bone crafts that I made and have brought to the trade post (usually in a bin together with some "acceptable" goods). I accept and they buy them no problem.

In my experience they will counteroffer animal products but only ones not built in your fortress. It could just be me.
