Nice run, Grath. Jonathan'll have to illuminate how he got the file size down, as it won't let me upload, anyhow...

So, list says...

5. 1138
6. EchoP
7. Dwarf Fanatic
8. The Taken

1138, you're up. And role call for EchoP, Dwarf Fanatic, and The Taken. Making sure everyone'll be ready for their turns.

You don't know how to upload DFMA maps?

Tehehehe... You use DF map compressor.

Anyway nice work, I especially like how instead of digging a hallway to a short space, you build a huge covered bridge and the dig down.

EDIT: OOOOOHHHH It's an escape bridge, I uploaded that and looked at it before I read the story.

Well, it has to be covered or any cave adapted dwarves will start puking on it.
One idea for use would be to have the abandoned(ish, there's still some gems) mineshaft that it's over have an exit out with a drawbridge and have the mineshaft cut off from the main fort. Another possible use would be to station a large (20-ish size) group of military dwarves in the escape tunnels, seal them off from the main fort, and let the military out. Somewhat a 'Military Airlock' if you will.

I'm on it! I can't believe we got sieged by humans. That's so cool. Were any of them riding horses, by any chance?

Yes. Two of them were riding horses. They refused to attack, even when I opened the main gates, though. They only charged when they had targets on the same Z-level as them.

Gah. So apparently my computer suddenly hates Dwarf Fortress, and is making its objections known by flipping me the BSoD occasionally whenever I try to run it. Obviously, this makes it very frustrating to try to play, so could we skip to EchoP's turn, and put me back at the end of the list? Hopefully by then I'll have gotten my brother to look at it fixed it using my amazing technical skills and be able to actually play my turn. Sorry about this.

No! You must play your turn, even though you can't!
And then we'll get mad at you for not finishing your turn on time.

Yes, I'm still here. I've been steadily keeping track of this thread, I just haven't felt a need to comment. I'm more than ready to run a fort for a year.

Hm... Alright, 1138. Tech problems do seem to be making the rounds lately... We'll put you on hiatus until you're ready. EchoP, that'd make you the leader for right now I think. And Taken, nice to see ya here.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Only done spring so far, but have already run out of things to do, now that I have completed my waterfall. I have people smelting around the clock, but my forges, carpentry and mason workshops are all unused for the most parts. Any ideas? Should I be making lots of stuff? Also, food production seems to be taking care of itself, I haven't touched it, but I still have plenty of food.

Oh and I am running at about 40 FPS  :(  (Before waterfall was going, could be even lower now...)
Edit: Was running at around 25-30 FPS with waterfall, had to turn temperature off, am sitting on around 50  at the moment

Hm... Maybe installing a floodgate to stop the waterfall for FPS gain would make a good side project. :P

Anyhow, you might want to prepare for war with the humans some more. After all, we were edged out to be a military fortress. Aside from that, crank up wealth, get nobles, and let the Fun(tm) begin!

You know, in the ~year that I've played DF, I've pumped magma to the top of a tower, created a magma waterfall, and yet, have never gotten another noble aside from Captain of the Guard and Mayor.

Forgot to mention I put in a lever that stops the waterfall for massive FPS increase. (Actually only around 5). I won't be able to finish this tonight (Australian timezone, currently 5 pm), but should finish it tomorrow.

Is Dwarf Fanatic still around, or am I next? In either case, will we be upgrading to 39e or sticking with 39d?

I'm looking forward to seeing this hodgepodge fortress, and have been considering what sort of quick project I can pull off in my short term of office. Elaborate cascading waterfall system? Catapult Tower? Batista Barrister? Demon Worship?

I ran it with 39e, no errors.
