Count me in if that's cool. I haven't done a succession game before, so am interested in giving it a shot.  :)

For the poll:
C:Killing things. With traps, preferably...

I have two locations, within the same world that may be good for this. I'm uploading pics now, but they all have magma, flux layer and a brook. No HFS :(

They both have lots of tress.
Like them?

I love the names in these places. The first one would be the perfect place for a Switzerland/Geneva Convention challenge: The Tower of Neutrality, within it the Sorrow of Decency and the Flame of Discovery. It's awesome being all enlightened and decent and stuff, but it sure can be a downer sometimes.

The second is awesome for its contrast: The Forest of Celebration, within it a brook that someone saw fit to name "The Droopy Malodor."

Anyway, I've found a bunch of cool/pretty looking spots recently (seriously, did Toady do some voodoo to the generator that makes it gen much more interesting locations?), but none of them were very challenging. That is, wilderness/maybe untamed wilds, barely any wildlife, etc.

I did do a succession game but it blew up.

Also, my writing sucks worse than dwarven crap (ohhh! Alcoholic! elk! Bone Meal!)

So Join me up! My suggestion: Metal working with glass gems.

*Steel Sword* is inlaid with *Green Glass Gems* is inlaid with *Green Glass Gems* is inlaid with *Green Glass Gems* by Horist with in image of a Dwarf and a sword, a dwarf is working the sword, the sword is making a plaintative jesture, which is inlaid with:...

Oh yea! I just need 39 and i can crack some brain Juice!

h, Nessing is cool and all. And Civilization goes from stone to steam punk, but nothin'' beats a good dose of Fanaticialism to Dwarf Fortress and a load of Dwarfen Rum!

Hm... Alright, I'm liking Emperor Jonathan's first submission there. Seems we'll lack a water source outside of ponds (if those), but that shouldn't be a major hassle. I'm going to set up the list in order of post, with the exception of Jonathan running first if we use one of his worlds (if that's good by everyone here). So gear up and wrap up your DF affairs, I suppose.

Making up some story as we go, I'll be modding the first post shortly. When you're done, try and upload a map to DFMA, with points of intrest (and possibly lever labels).Hopefuly we can keep the first fort alive long enough to let everyone get a turn in.

Uh no, the first one I posted has a brook on the right, regional prospector makes it look weird. Uh, do you want me to start now?

EDIT: OH! and are gearing our selves toward killing?

EDIT2: GOD DAMN IT

Unfortunately, due to bad management to me, I had to re-gen the world again, I found the place and, theres plenty of loam. I couldn't find any flux, unfortunately, but magma is in the same place, theres still hematite veins open, gems, native aluminum, galena, copper and now it's less dangerous, better for a noob like me.

EDIT3: OK I decided to decide what my starting items would be, I went for this:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

and the skills as:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I haven't actually started yet, so they aren't set in stone, with the hunter, I plan on turning hunting of straight away, and digging into obsidian then making a few swords for him to use, THEN let him hunt. The actual drinks in the items can change but the number will stay the same, if you have any suggestions to change it then just post them!

I think that would be for the best...

Looks great, do you intend to start the fortress now?

I'm thinking kick it off tomorrow, Jonathan, unless we get some objections. as to the setup before then. Good luck with it. :)

Alrighty, tomorrow it is then!

EDIT: Just to give you an idea of how steep the mountain is, one the regional map, it is second largest cliffs (10+) and in about 10-20 tiles it drops off 10 z-levels, all with ramps/slopes.

Another idea for the focus: Ranching. Bring at least one breeding pair of some animal at start up. DON'T USE CATS! Dogs are good cuz you can train them too.

Sell some of the animals as pets, butcher some and use their meat/bones/leather for goods.

Or a fortress specializing in breeding exotic animals. Embark on a tropical forest (optionally savage), even better if there are more than one kind of forest bordering each other. Use cage traps spread around the place to catch stuff like gibbons, and breed them. Sell some as pets, eat others. Use some of the (untamed) predators in arena combat with goblins you catch. Perhaps breed untamed predators in animal pits with completely cage trapped exits.

Heh... We'll probably want to keep it simple for now. Once (if) we've managed to get ourselves established as 'not going to die in the near future', we can branch out a bit... I think dog ranching would be pretty fun.

If it's not too late, I would like to nominate this area for consideration:

Making a soap fort at the brook Twinklejokes pouring out of The Spine of Fragrance is just too funny to pass up.

Heh... Tuck that map away, we'll probably need several on hand... Though I think the joke would be the river freezing over so often that anyone who took a bath in it would die horribly.

Good start, but is it possible for screenshots? Or are you intending on doing that at the end of your turn...
Either way, good stuff so far  :)
