That's right. This is a Succession thread started by someone who has yet to do a succession game. It's also made primarily for people who haven't had a succession game before (not that it's exclusive), so it'll be more of a rolling succession game, which is to say that we'll likely have more than one fort. Probably because we'll die. Relax, it won't be starting for a few days at least. I'm taking suggestions for specifics, but in general, here it goes:

Spoiler: Rules (click to show/hide)

Story synopsis: The Mountainhomes have gone monotheistic. Anyone who doesn't exclusively worship the deity that may or may not be Armok is promptly booted out. Still part of the civilization, they are forced to set up camps and towns on the edges of dwarven land and beyond. Also, they die a lot.

Turn list:

First Round:
1. Haven
2. Duke 2.0
3. Grath
4. Emperor_Jonathan
5. 1138
6. EchoP
7. Dwarf Fanatic
8. The Taken
9. Zerox
10. RebelZhouYuWu

I would like to join this. I have only had work in Bloodrock, and even then it was painfully slow.

Although don't expect me to be active for all of July. Helping with the sound of a student movie. But once it is over, I'll have plenty of time for megaprojects.

Buck up friendo, we're all on the level here.
I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I'm tempted to sign up, but not sure I can make the time requirements. I've done two succession games in the past, and in both cases a year pretty much took an entire weekend, plus a few weeknights as well. And weekdays I have this work thing I'm meant to be doing.

Still, I'll try and follow how things go. If I can spot a point in time when I'm free, and can synch it up with a free turn, I'll try and drop in to the game.

Oh, and "Disposable Urist" is an *excellent* name for a dwarf, and one that I am stealing.

I'm also tempted to sign up, though I already have two fort projects running.

My suggestion would be for something similar to the Forest of Acts; an area with an unusually high concentration of goblins. You can predict the type of resources mineable from the embark screen by looking at the soil layers. Pick out a location with flux, since they often have iron ore deposits too.

I'd like to sign up for this fort.
Dying horribly and practicing Succession Fort Writing sounds fun.

Hm... If people consistently overshoot the play time mark, we'll need to widen it a bit I suppose. I've got no grasp for the span, after all...

Alright, we have a few applicants, suppose laying down the foundation for our first embark would work well here.

Polls are fun, let's do a poll. Woo, poll...

Okay, what should our starting setup be geared toward?
A - Metalworking! It's never too early!
B - Stoneworking! Simple, solid income.
C - Killing things! Fun and functional!
D - Not dying! Less fun, but more functional.
E - Something else entirely!

I'd also like to join. I've played one succession game before on another forum, but it was pretty much dead by the time my turn came around.

I vote for C, in an evil area. Cleanse the world!

Hmmm... Snag here. I've generated about seven worlds, but none of them have decent amounts of Lava. The only spot I found is here...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyhow, if anyone here knows a good seed, or has a nice spot of their own, they can send it this way to be counted in. I imagine whoever posesses the world will be getting first turn.

A side note, don't be scared to add your own flares to the fortress, or your own experiments. The dwarves may not be Disposable Urists, but he's their union president.

(Though, I've found a world where the dwarves are warring with the elves. Just an option.)

Unless this has been changed in the most recent update, muddy indoor floor created by subterranean lakes and/or rivers sprouts tower-caps. Flooding a huge area using the underground water source would allow the fortress to make it's own tree farms in huge dugout caverns. Takes about three years to grow some, but carving out four whole floors should do the trick.

Taking on the HFS is the pinnacle achievement of a dwarven war engine, win or loose. But if we want to drop it, extend the area back to include more flux. 4x4=16, 3x5=15, so the area with more flux saves a tiny bit on the processor.

If at least 5 people sign up, add me on at the end, voting for C. DEEAATH TO GREEEENSKINSSS!!!

Hmm... Four so far assured. Not sure if Jools is in or not, given time constraints there and whatnot. Plus me. Do I count?

Anyhow, never made Steel before. Lava spots are always hard to find. And I imagine the war machine itself would cause more problems with processing power. The trees are interesting enough... Never done those either. Think I'll be building the basics, plus some fancy but not overly useful or imposing stuff. I'll have to think on it a bit more.

I have two locations, within the same world that may be good for this. I'm uploading pics now, but they all have magma, flux layer and a brook. No HFS :(

Checking up on "Kulettögum, Salt Mines Beneath the Mire" it seems that my last turn took 11 days... thet's more than double the current timeframe, so count me out. Granted that was with 130-something dwarves and vast swathes of donkeys, horses, cats, dogs, mules, warthogs and lions slowing down the fortress, but still, it's far too slow for this thread.

I'll stay out for now, but keep checking in when I can, and if I find a sudden gap in my schedule coincides with a free turn, I might drop in.
