Goblins and their wood
« on: July 17, 2008, 10:26:26 am »

I find that when playing as goblins they can do everything except chop wood (can move it around just can't cut trees, they refuse to do it)  :-[ ok well theres always copying some other races statistics for goblins to make them work but then I can't get my 1 point trolls  :D  does anybody know the tag for trolls? or if copying a race will even work.

Also on trolls is it possible to assign their dumb butts to a goblin? couldn't find anything in the wiki about assigning do I need to train them?

Have a look in the entity file; there should be a bunch of [ALLOWED_JOBS] sort of tags, with the jobs name after them.

Just copy all the ones from the Dwarves to the goblins, and they can do those tasks.

Gah didn't work all they do is lie around, the woodworker even carries the axe but its like he dosen't know how to use it.

I'm going to copy the dwarf code (and get rid of beer >.>) and see if its still bugged.

Great axe...it works fine now with the dwarf code although it didnt modify the embark screen.

Dwarves still send their traders...oh well they love me.

Are you sure he actually had it in his inventory?   Because even though they use them while sieging or while in adventure mode, they can't actually use great axes and halberds.  They'll bring the big axes, but they won't use them.

Two-handed weapons are bugged, or poorly implemented. Anyone can use them right now.

I read the topic title, and I expected something that... didn't involve trees.

I need to stay off the internet.

Or at least away from Sean's Martial Arts mod.  But yeah, it occurred to me too.

And Cosmonot, I know that they'll use two-handed weapons under normal circumstances.  However, when you're playing in fortress mode, your race will not be able to use overly large weapons.

A goblin dark fortress guard can carry a giant halberd around (plus a shield), but your goblin woodcutter won't know what to do with it.

You might have to generate a new world after changing the tags. I tried modifying the tags for elves to change what kind of weapons they can make/use and it didn't have any effect until after I created a new world.

Confirmed.

The internets have scarred me tbh.

I tried a human fortress and they cut trees with greataxes no problem. But that was .38c, unless something has changed.
