Toady, do you know how many members there are on the forum? Last I checked the highest numbers I saw were 13,000+. Has that gone up noticeably since the new releases?

Members? I think you must have been looking at a different number or something.

Forum stats are here:
http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?action=stats

You can also track daily, monthly, and yearly stats by expanding the bottom section.

Of course, all of the statistics are only from when the forum was converted over to SMF.

EDIT: and as you might expect, the most users online at a time jumped drastically on the day of the 39a release (the 14th, early morning).

Yeah, the id numbers on the old forum were around 13000, but that was counting 9000 or so bot registrations (the vast majority didn't post because they didn't know how to deal with the emailed password).  Bot registrations stopped when we added the chicken word problem, but that was only during the last few months.  When the scripts migrated the members over to this forum, the dead entries weren't counted, so we got the new and hopefully more accurate member number.

WOOT! World Parameter seeds translate. Thank goodness since I just found a decent seed combo. Though the dragons still are dead by year 500...

Damn! I'm have the 23rd most posts. But I need to get in the top 10 so I can get on that special page. Time to spam some posts somewhere. That top 10 means everything.

Hi!

Thanks for the cool new release, and I don't mind the wakeful dwarves :) :) :)

I am assuming that this will be the last 39 release as there seem to be no new major bugs (fatal health care is not exactly new, I suppose (^_^;; ).

Currently, I am creating a bunch of medium sized worlds to put up on the file depot assuming that there are people who still use pregenerated worlds. I am playing around with the settings, but I am not working towards having specific features. Because major expansion seems to stop around 600 to 800, I have the worlds end at 700.

So, I was wondering, are there people who would need such pregenerated worlds?

There will be another release on the 23rd to fix (hopefully) some additional crash issues I've received and whatever fixes and minor alterations I decide to work on.  Then it'll be the week off, and a start in August on new stuff to mark the two year anniversary of DF's release.

Hi!

Mmmhhhh, 5 days. I guess I pick two worlds which seem best and upload them in case someone needs them during the time. (What a shame, I just had a medium sized world, 800+800 caves at 500max, 10 civs with 20000 cap, with not a single event during the years between 120 and 700, and a total of 1607 sites in the end - for those who don't know, 1600 of these sites are the caves... Well, at least it was still in the age of myth :) :) :) )

All these history things are awesome (they add well to the dwarven relationship things. After the disappointment of SimCity Societies, seeing that this great game here is constantly better really cheers me up (and I like the new sleep speed of the dwarves :) :) :) ).

One thing I was wondering about; now that we can see complete engraving descriptions in dwarf mode, will these descriptions also activate/free the entries for legend mode? I want to start PLAYING DF after all this fiddling with generation, so I want to start with history hidden, but my focus will be on dwarf mode. So, I am wondering whether history will be revealed by the engravings I view in dwarf mode or whether I still need adventure mode to fill the gaps in history.

I thought it did, but it only does as of two minutes ago.  I guess you can either fiddle for another week, or just do a mass engraving viewing after importing your save a week from now.

Hi!

I will play it anyway. I also do not keep maps between versions but rather start anew with a clean slate.

I am sorry that I am not able to support you on the financial side, but I will try my best to contribute in other forms.

As I mentioned before, I uploaded a pregenerated 39c world to the file depot, so that those who don't have the time to generate a world themselves can simply download it. As far as civilizations go, it seems to have everything (elven retreats with elves, goblin fortresses with goblins), so I guess it should make a decent play for people.

The download is
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=308

The world map is

Generation data is

Hi!

How to download this stuff? it seams wonderful!

I am not sure, do you mean the world I uploaded?

In that case, first download the file from the depot (that in itself should be self-explanatory, I think).

Unpack the zip-archive; you should get a single directory out of the file.

Move that directory (not just the contents, but the directory itself with its contents still inside) into the data/save subdirectory of the directory where DF is located.

Once you have done that, you are all set.

I don't understand, Dwarf Fanatic. The newest version is available at: [urlhttp://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/[/url] for both Windows and Mac (Intel/PPC).

If it isn't showing up, be sure to refresh the page again (and/or look for an option to "bypass the cache"; sometimes your browser will store the page and not update it properly.)

Do you mean to update your old Dwarf Fortress version to the latest one? You can simply overwrite the old files with the new ones, but take care your keybindings and init file will also be overwritten. Your saves will remain, however.

If this isn't what you wanted to know, could you please elaborate further?
