[39b] Goblin-Enslaved Humans avoiding traps
« on: July 16, 2008, 10:26:28 pm »

I know human sieges back in the day were dangerous because any trap a liaison had seen on his way through, he'd avoid.  This made sense, like he was spotting for his civ and then attacking later.

In the past two ambush groups, there have been human slave-leader guys.  Mercenaries.  Whatever they are.  Humans fighting alongside goblins.  These humans ignore my traps and walk through the place like they own it.

Is this intended behavior?

Also I got a different message when the human was the first to be noticed.  "A human springs from ambush!" as opposed to "An ambush!  Curse them!"

I would also be happy to hear that plain old elf/human sieges were back.

Back?  Were they ever gone?

Do you have a save that does this?  It could be all sorts of things.

AFAIK, there were no verified reports of either elves or humans seiging in the last version.

Edit: Well, without modding the game/changing your race, at least.

I have saved since the ambushes and I dunno if the humans come each time.

I have never had a human or elven siege, even in fortresses where I seize all their goods every time or get them killed by things.  The Dwarf Wiki suggests that 'good' races just no longer siege.

If you killed them, they might not have any more to send at you.  It'll be difficult to trace this one without their particular circumstances.  Let me know if it comes up again, and I'll keep an eye out for it.

As the others said, the humans and the elves just never sieged. They'd get upset and not send very large trade caravans, but even if you seized all their goods, dumped their wagons in lava and let all the traders get away, they'd come back all dumb and happy next time.

I haven't heard anyone trying to start a war with anyone whom they trade with in the current version, so I think someone should still do a check to see if races get pissed if you kill their caravans. I think I'll try to annoy the elves and see what happens.
