Elves sieging... again
« on: July 16, 2008, 05:03:50 pm »

Ouch. That's all I have to say.

I had an ambush, and then a siege. Both times most of my dwarves hunting and cutting wood and hanging about outside the base were slaughtered. Then the Royal Guard and some haulers ran out and were turned into wood arrow pincushions.

I raised the drawbridge but some elves were inside my castle walls, most of them fell to traps and my marksdwarves before being mopped up by hammerdwarves.

The siege I thought was a bug because the siege was announced but there was no one on the map until I checked the units list. Sneaky little buggers.

So apparently if your starting dwarf civ was at war with the elves when you embarked, have fun.

What about dwarven sieges? That is possible (in theory) because of the different civs.

if elves siege, do goblins trade?

If so, we just reached a new level of awesomeness.

I think you're all missing the important question.

Did the elves eat your corpses?

If not, then it's bug.  Because they must eat the corpses.

They probably don't, yet, because Toady hasn't changed much in Fortress mode yet. But, yeah, if they win and the fortress is destroyed you shouldn't find any bodies afterwards.

"By Armok, Urist! It's horrible! Horrible!"

"Calm down, Bomrek! What is wrong?"

"We came upon the remains of the settlement, and it was as the scout said. wooden arrows and smashed wooden helms, aye, the doors forced in and battered down, the bed all buried in neat rows, like graves... But Urist... Oh, Armok!"

"It's alright Bomek. You can tell me. What was it? What did you see?"

"Urist... There were no bodies... There were no bodies! We found only and single bone... cracked for the marrow, and gnawed upon! Aiiiieeeeeee!"

I don't think Goblins trade, though, no matter how peachy you are with them.

So now we have goblins that actually don't want to insert arrows and bolts into your bodies, and war crazy elves who EAT people.

And I thought the Discworld elves were bad.

What would be better is also if you build a fort entirely out of wood, then after the elves win you come back and all the wood is gone and in the middle of where your fort was is a neat row of trees.

Exactly what is behind the new spate of elven cannibalism?

If you think about it, elves hate harming plants and animals. So they can't eat plants or animals.

Elves are skinny, which demonstrates how hard it is for them to find food that's acceptable for them to eat.

So what's left? If you think about it, there's not much for elves to eat that isn't the fallen corpses of their foes.

Now, the real question? Do elves get fatter and fatter as they go into more battles? Ie, do elf champions need to wear "wide" clothing?

... err... I hate to say this, but I think I've just realised that elves are now more awesome than humans, and almost as awesome as dwarves now

I do not approve of this direction to take elves in. Not at all. :(

Hmmmmmmm... Now I kind of want to start an Elven Fortress. Hell, an "All Civlized Races" fortress.

Human warriors with two-handed weapons, Dwarven hammerlords with tower shields, elven crossbowmen...

And of course, the ability to [P]ull the Lever! in times of dire need.

So we can be sieged by any race now.  That's all well and good, but can we be sieged by more than one race at the same time (or at least in the same fortress, assuming no reclaims, since those tend to reroll certain parameters).
