animals killed by traps not being claimed
« on: July 16, 2008, 04:50:35 pm »

I noticed that animals killed by my stone-fall traps weren't being hauled away, and ordering a task in my butcher's shop gets a reply that there are no corpses available.

this extends to the remains and the bones, and the outside of my fortress is littered with bones that no one will touch,

Just to ask what might seem obvious, do you have "dwarves gather refuse from outside" under the refuse orders?  The default is "dwarves ignore refuse from outside".  Corpses, shells, bones, skulls, and raw hide all count as refuse.

If software was real world, then it'd be something equivalent of hitting a nail with a hammer and having a building collapse on the other side of town.

Don't worry people, sometimes -moments occur

there's also dwarves gather corpses (as opposed to only way to get corpses back is "return kill", tho i've never killed a butcherable animal with a trap, so idk if that helps or not

To follow up on the above, corpses won't get butchered unless there's a refuse stockpile accepting corpses (with the appropriate hauling options turned on as above), or a hunter returns the kill to the butcher shop.
