[39b] Unconscious wounded.
« on: July 16, 2008, 03:19:42 pm »

I don't know if it hasn't been already said, but I just noticed that : In forteresse mode, every wounded darf (even a yellow injury at the arm) is inconscious when resting.
This is also why the other dwarves won't give him water or food, altough it don't work very well even when they're conscious.

But if you remove the bed where the injured dwarf is resting, he'll wake up and act normally. Unconsciousness happen only when the dwarf decide to rest.

Someone can confirm ?

I can confirm this problem (version 39c). I had two wounded dwarves, one with a yellow and one with a red wound. While they were resting, they slept all the time and the wound screen said, they were unconscious, but that wasn't the problem, since they were fed even while sleeping. The Problem was, that one dwarf healed his wound but remained sleeping. He still had 'rest' as job but wasnt fed anymore (I guess because he had no more wounds) and nearly dehydrated. I could at least wake him up by deconstructing the bed under him and after that he immediatly fetched himself something to drink and got to work again.

I think I can confirm this.

I had only one bed built at the time, but I noticed dwarves were dying every now and then from thirst or something. I just never looked at the problem, because I had other things to worry about (sieges, tantrum spirals) It was always injured dwarves who died like that, I believe.

Also, I did notice that sleeping dwarves count as unconscious.

I had a dwarf recover perfectly. They're supposed to be counted as unconscious when asleep to prevent them from doing stuff like blocking attacks while sleeping, and resting dwarves are probably counted as unconscious so they don't stop resting whenever they pass out from pain, causing you to have to deconstruct their bed to get them resting again.

I can say with some certainty that this bug, or, issue, exists in some limited form in the current version (39c) - fatality rates are up despite my allocated specific dwarves and removing all other tasks save healthcare functions.

I had a squad of noob marksdwarves that was guarding the trade depot bump head on into a goblin bows ambush. The from the 3 that didn't die, only one (the most messed up) was dragged to bed, where he eventually died. The other 2 just sat where they had been wounded. They had leg wounds, which i believe is the reason they weren't moving more than a square per season. But still nobody dragged them to bed. They would still get fed and watered by the other dwarves, but they grew more and more miserable. Finally they decided to kill themselves, and started the multiseason walk to my water deposit. In different years, they jumped into 6/7 water, where they lived for a couple more seasons, gaining many levels in swimming until after what seemed like forever they starved to death. They were uncouncious under water most of the time. The other dwarves would still try to feed them in the water, by going downstairs into the underwater level. I had to put a locked hatch on those stairs for the damm injured dwarves to finally die.

A crap deal is that, even though I have a bed and a dwarf with no other labor but health care on, my miner and expedition leader is still unconscious and is dehydrating. He got caught in a cave-in but the only injury is a broken right upper arm. He's going to die for no reason, I've drafted and undrafted him and ordered a bucket constructed but no one seems to care. Changed his bed to barracks and then free bed but still same thing.
