[39b] I need a medic... (No one will bring water)
« on: July 15, 2008, 06:27:26 pm »

My legendary miner dwarf died today of thirst as he sat helpless in a bed wounded.
None of the other dwarves wanted to bring him water.  Apparently he had offended them.

I had:  a) empty, unused buckets which were not tasked to anything.  b) Idle dwarves with the Heath Care task highlighted (And no other task).  c) Idle dwarves with the Health Care and food hauling tasks Highlighted.  d)  A water source marked as such using the zoning tool.

Suggestions?

Unfortunately, I think that's pretty normal. Health care takes much lower priority than it should at this point.

I've noticed that as a general rule, if you have a stockpile which accepts buckets, the dwarves are a lot less likely to get the "give water" task.  I don't know why it would work this way, but now I never set any stockpile to accept buckets and I generally have an idle dwarf who brings water to thirsty bed-ridden dwarves.

This isn't a bug so much as it is a flaw in the system. Currently woulded dwarves will only generate the give food/water tasks once when hungry/thirsty and once when starving/dehdrated. If the second of either task gets canceled and the dwarf doesn't heal in that amount of time, he's dead.

Additionally, it seems that tasks are getting interrupted far more frequently in the latest version for some reason, much more often than occurred previously, or should occur.

Lets hope that a new version of Tweak comes out so we can heal wounded dwarves, then.

I'd rather hope that the pathing failures get fixed and the hunger/thirst events not being generated get fixed instead.  :P

How about a complete overhaul/improvement of the health care system, instead.

same problem, slightly different.  dwarf *was* wounded, now is unconscious, resting, thirsty and dying, all body parts appear to be ok (all white).

Deconstruct/forbid all the beds, this will cause the rest task to be canceled, and then the dwarf will (if it can) get its own food and drink.  Then you can replace all the beds.  An incredible nuisance, but it does work.

yah, remembered that trick right after I posted. Good thing, saved my outpost weaponsmith.  Still, it could use attention.

Lets hope one day Tweak stops using the .NET Bullshit, so we all can use it :)

Unfortunately, last I remember, that was always the case since the 3D version came out.., I don't think there was issues in the 2-D version.

Just try to not let your dwarves get hurt... (Though sometimes it is unavoidable.)
