Do (semi)megabeasts reproduce?
« on: July 15, 2008, 04:20:47 pm »

I know that the current problem with all the beasties getting wiped out well before 1050 may be because of balancing issues... but do they reproduce? Or does a world simply get a certain number at the start... and thats it?

it might help keep respectable numbers if they could meet up with other beasts and mate... Of course, giants would be more numerous than say, dragons, who might have a hard time finding a partner. Just a thought...

Even beyond world history... the issue could arise with long established forts eliminating the world's population of Megabeasts

None of them reproduce. The best thing to do if you want megabeasts is to massively buff them (I suggest tripling the damage of all their attacks and giving them 20 damblock), but even this might not be too effective.

Start out with more megabeasts.

According to the raws, only semimegabeasts (giants, ettins, cyclopes, minotaurs) have the tags to allow breeding. The [CHILD:age] and [BABY:age] tags, along with [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] tags that is.

Don't know whether they need to 'marry' or whether it works like regular animals.

I'm trying to buff the megabeasts.  I gave them all at least 10 Damblock and increased their damage, but that only gave them an extra 50 or so years.  Now I'm just buffing them like crazy.  Bronze Colossi have Damblock 50.

EDIT:  My record for a medium sized world is 270-something, and I give up on buffing them.

Bronze Collossi don't last very long because their main power over other Megabeasts was special abilities such as No Bleed, No Pain, no exhaust, and their lack of Organs to strike. (Also I think they are hardcoded to recover even faster then ordinary megabeasts)

The World Gen doesn't take that into account hense why the Bronze Collosi die off against the first Dwarf they fight.

The only special ability I think world Gen takes into account is Firebreath (hense why Dragons last the longest)... So just give all the megabeasts firebreath

But then all the megabeasts are stupid.  I don't want firebreathing Titans'n'such, even if it makes the game last longer.

I think that damblock doesn't do much in worldgen. I've found that the size matters much more.

Wait, can't you just give them superstats, generate the world, and then change the stats back to normal?

Not always- only some things are locked- specifically, creature stats can be changed. The idea is worth a try.

I think that the problem is that the firsr dwarves/elves/etc are, like, declaring wars at year 1, and evolving too fast. They should take longer to develop a strong civilization.

Though all this doesn't explain why giants and ettins are so common even after 1050 years while all the major baddies died off 1049 years ago.

Ettins and giants are semimegabeasts, aren't they? I thought semimegabeasts could breed.
