Yeah...I usually by the second year have a stonecrafter cranking out enough bins of crafts to buy whatver I want besides the expensive steel armor, but this time there was so much chaos t hat I had nothing but a ton of nuggets, which weigh a LOT. Oddly, rough gems also weigh a ton, but cutting them reduces the weight by abotu 90%.

News: no elves or humans yet, but a goblin civ appeared on my civ list despite no ambushes or thieves yet....odd. Also, they're at peace with me :( do I need to edit any files to make them siege me if this is the case?

Hi!

As for goblins, you are referring to the "P", right? That kind of indicates only that there is no active official war between you and them.

The important thing for goblin sieges seems to be when you check them during site selection. If they have either "War" or "------" listed next to them, they will send snatchers, ambushes and sieges.

I've never seen it, but wouldn't P indicate there was an active peace agreement of somesort.  All I've ever seen is '----' 'war' or nothing.

High temp.  Low rain.  High drainage (deserts, low for badlands, I think).  High elevation and volcanic variance (so you get mountains next to deserts and get volcanoes popping up everywhere).

I thought high drainage reduced the number of sand deserts...

Low drainage means that water from rain and such has a hard time going somewhere or eveporating. Like a swamp.

I got this totally awesome world and thought it should share it with you guys. It got lots of great locations and with that I mean underground river, HFS, Magma, chasm, sand and flux all in a 4x4 location. It has 2 big mountain formations. one terrifying in the upper left and a normal in the lower right. it has a good mix of terrifying and normal. The best places to search are the volcanoes standing in the open with just a few or no mountains around them. Have Fun! ;D

Really great world, all evil mountains its got all the races an intresting history and a site with flux river trees and magma that is evil and kinda cliffy (I used the finder).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Perfect 3x5 location found on that map:

Magma Pipe, Underground River, HFS, Flux, Sand, 2-tile Mini Chasm, untamed wilds, some trees.
Extend two tiles to the right and you also can have a cave.

edit: sorry for necrobump

I've been building my latest megafort here and it really does have everything, save for one thing.

There's no bauxite, can't even import it. I built up my massive fortress and THEN noticed that there's no bauxite so all my magma constructions I have planned can't be done :( I'm still super excited about this place though. The underground river and magma are real close together too so it makes for convenient obsidian production.

I know it's been asked before, but if anyone has a site with an underground river, HFS, magma, flux, sand, trees, AND bauxite omg lemme know via PM plz. I'll take whatever ores are available as long as there are goblins because the map I'm on now only has like 3-4 veins of hematite, but I still have hundreds of iron and steel bars anyway from the surge of goblin ambushes. I also like collecting breeding pairs of animals for limitless butchering possibilities so elves would be ok as well but not necessary.

Well, you can still use steel. Just would be harder to set-up.

Sorry for the slight necrobump, but has anyone figured out a way to have rivers dig canyons through the rock? I had a fantastic starting location earlier today, with a frozen waterfall which I built my dinnerroom around, thinking it would melt in the summer atleast. It didnt... so now I'm looking for more worlds with canyons to build my fortress around!

edit: maybe I should clarify, I'm looking for areas with magma and a river of some kind that's dug itself many, many z-levels down into the ground, basicly leaving a 3-tile gap which I can span back and forth with bridges and give my nobles a view (and a cliff to throw themselves off as they starve to death).

Off-topic question:
I found an AWESOME site (stream cutting a sweet canyon between two volcanoes, giant eagles, modded tyrannosaurs mentioned in the embark text as the "before the...get hungry") in a world I genned and then screwed up big time. I want a second chance at this site; how do I find the worldgen and history seeds for this world so I can gen it again?
