No More Caves?
« on: July 14, 2008, 11:11:43 am »

Has anyone noticed a startling lack of caves?  I keep getting quests to kill monsters in caves, but when I get there, there's no cave entrance, and there are cave monsters/megabeast loot outside.  Did something in the new version remove the entrances?

I had that happen to me a few times on the previous version.
Maybe it's been made more persistent in this version, I dunno, I haven't played around with it yet.

I just carefully paced out the very perimeter of the cave I was supposed to go to using the little compass doohickey, only to discover that nowhere within that boundary is a cave, or in fact anything cave related. Seems the entrance is nonexistent.

Same here. I figured the megabeasts just sat down in any random place and called it home rather than made a cave for themselves now.

Yeah, no caves. So it looks like adv mode is also pretty pointless in this version.

Well, when I went to visit my assigned cave, I just found a single alligator wrestling a kobold child (well, it wasn't wrestling so much as biting his head off) and a few jewlrey items scattered around. Plus, one unit of jaguar meat.

Ah.
I figured it was just because I embarked right on top of where a cave was marked.
Yes, loot scattered all about (as when reclaiming) and only two giant bats to guard it...maybe the cave entrance is flooded?

Why do you people keep finding loot? Since when has there been loot in caves? I mean, in goblin forts I've seen silly amounts of loot around, but never in caves.

Ow.  Getting slaughtered by a hydra 5 minutes after starting an adventurer sucks.
However, I do like actually being able to FIND said hydra now.
Before, I couldn't find a damn thing inside those caves.
It has 25 kills...  Gah, it needs to die.  It's one of the few megabeasts left in my world at year 100.  Civilizations really are too quick for their own good, slaughtering 80% of the megabeast population in 100 years...
I really do like the new version, bugs or no bugs.  Even without caves, adventurer mode is just so much more complete now.

This happens to me also. But the only beasts left alive are giants because the civilizations killed everything else.

Yeah, this can be expected since it was just released.  I'm gonna play STALKER until Toady has time to fix some of the more glaring bugs.

There are seven, count them SEVEN bloodsuckers in the bunker under Agroprom.

You can find the caves in fortress mode if you set them to be visible on the world map. They're still there, but 95% of the cave dwellers are just milling around on the surface.

Is there any form of co-op for STALKER? Mods or otherwise, I'd love to play me some co-op.
