second cave was just a Idol, a named grizzly and a troglodyte
third cave ("womendepths, the fragrant gutters" no less!) was nothing. I jumped into a few pools of stagnant water to check for submerged stairs, that is when I noticed that jumping into a pool leaves you stunned and I subsequently drowned.

I wish.  Wtf were they thinking when they put that lame deathmatch multiplayer in the game?  Did they honestly not think of co-op?!

Well, they did, they just couldn't get the A-life working with it, I think I read somewhere.

Hi!

Maybe this is an overcrowding problem (^_^;; (just a wild guess)
In the extended parameters, you can set the number of caves in the world and the default for a medium size world is 25 or some such. (gosh, the list of new parameters are mind-bogglingly long)

I don't think so. It's not like we don't have any quests involving caves, or are lacking the map markers for them when we go out looking for them, it's just that when we arrive at the place marked on our maps, there's no way to get to the caves! No entrance, you see.

I am trying to unearth a supposed cave. killed the 3 troglodites.

not much luck with the archeology.
I've burrowed to the bottom level from embarkation point.
dug some exploratory tunnels at -2 and a bit lower,
I got a tunnel going south to almost the edge and one going north.
There is a beautyful 15+ high rocksalt hill in the NW edge of the map, burrowed some into that too.

So far no luck finding any caves. there are no enemy units anywhere...so I fear it has been eroded away or something.

Yeah, a lot of the really cool stuff in the game went like that.  They couldn't figure out how to make characters take cover during blowouts, and quest characters were dying.  Easy Solution: Make them immune to blowouts.  It's not like quest characters don't already die constantly for stupid reasons.  You know Bullet, the Duty guy in the Dark Valley?  He chewed me out for failing to save his friend, then angrily stomped off, directly into a vortex anomaly.

Yeah, this can be expected since it was just released.  I'm gonna play STALKER until Toady has time to fix some of the more glaring bugs.

There are seven, count them SEVEN bloodsuckers in the bunker under Agroprom.

Awesome game. I beat it using my trusty Fire support AK47. I damn near cried when it reached zero durability. It was like the one really weak person you keep in your party at the end of any FF game because he's just plain awesome.

I ended up using that FN Scar ripoff to take it's place.

Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

Why do you people keep finding loot? Since when has there been loot in caves? I mean, in goblin forts I've seen silly amounts of loot around, but never in caves.
Used to be only kobold caves, but now that megabeasts are a little greedy you may find one or two pieces.

I created a pocket world with an absurd number of caves. Embarked on about 10 of em, not a single one had any sort of surface entry or anything besides a (semi)megabeast and a few cave creatures. I don't remember seeing anything in the dev logs about the caves being removed. Huh.

I use AliVe/Redux mods.  You can repair guns, and they all have their real names.  I'm using an AK-74 and a SPAS 12.  It also fixes the stupid stuff they did with monsters.  Pseudogiants appear outside now, but they're rare.  I wish I could say the same about Bloodsuckers(They're EVERYWHERE)

Possibly related, I just journeyed to Hatering, the dark fortress which is apparently serving as the capital of one of the dwarven civs. I imagine the site was quite easy to conquer, as there is no actual tower, just everyone standing around the end of the road.
This made the king much easier to find than he would've been otherwise, though.

Huh.  I haven't noticed any problems with the cave generation, but I can take a look at it.  Does somebody have a default param seed and location I can look at?  Preferably in a world that doesn't take 20 minutes to generate, he he he.

I have a medium world with a seeds:
SEED:562848260
HISTORY_SEED:3965233758
NAME_SEED:1559206092
It took me about... 1 minute to fully generate the world.

The cave is visible on the map without having to find it or anything.

Edit i figured I'd add the history seed too so you'd get the same place. If you start as a human adventurer from the first area you'll see that cave.

I haven't found any caves. I've been to a few now and there is definitely not an entrance. Either that, or the indicator that shows the site location (NSEW ---) is wrong.

If I am lucky, the beast I am sent to kill is wandering around the surface (happened twice). If not, I can pace forever and nothing happens...
