An idea for workshops: Complexes
« on: July 14, 2008, 08:43:46 am »

Sure, my one man carpentry workshop is all fine and dandy, but what if I have two, three, or even four carpenters all whom need to work at the same time? I could of course build four workshops, but that just means clutter builds up astonishingly quickly. And look at the butchery: That 3x3 space is just not enough to contain those levels of clutter without significant hauling.

The answer to both of these problems? Make the workshops bigger!

Why not have an improved workshop "complex" which is much bigger than a normal workshop, builds up clutter more slowly, and allows more dwarves to work in it at the same time? If you're having clutter problems, you could simply adjust the complex so that only one dwarf works there and all the rest of the space goes to storing unhauled items. Or if you really need more beds, you could have four carpenters bash out beds at warp speed in a single complex. It would of course give production bonuses, since the dwarves could help each other - many hands make light work.

Any thoughts?

The greater overarching idea of custom-built workshop rooms is better, but as a simpler implementation, your idea is good too.

That was actually my first thought, but figured this would be much easier to implement, as you said. ^_^

Loving the idea, wouldn't be such a problem to pump out the corkscrews and pipe sections at the same time then.

I see what you did there.
