Stop the peasant mobs!

My wrestler just turned the corner for a stroll into the tavern to kill the mayor, and what do I find? Twenty to thirty peasants, several children and diplomats, the mayor, and three drunks all waiting for me. I killed two before I got mobbed.

Now, I have no problem with large groups of creatures overpowering an outnumbered one, but this is just getting a bit ridicoulous. When danger is present, folks should lock their doors and stay in their homes, not gather in the town mead hall to rush the enemy who's killing the guards all at once.

I agree with this, but Toady has written about creatures getting scared in the 'goal' section of the devlog. So, I can only assume he's not planning on dealing with it at this time. Enjoy your suicidal mobs while you can.

Still, if only your dwarves during fortress mode showed such courage. More specifically, if only your military dwarves showed such courage. Civilians already seem to posses that...

Uhh, units do get scared already if you kill enough of them, or crawl away when wounded badly.

Also, if a mob thinks they can kill you by mobbing you when you're killing some of them, that's what they'll do... in real life as well.

Try sneaking.

I've had wounded units flee when they bleed, but when they stop, they come right back for more.

I've never seen peasents run because I just killed 30 of their comrades in three frames.

I've killed over 200 in a town once (had settings to 300 per town) in a major bloodbath at the entrance to the keep and more kept coming. Towards the end of it people were merely running away and I had to chase them down all around town.

But they do definitely run. You see this behavior in wardogs too if enough of them/owners are slain.

That's the thing, I WAS sneaking until a peasant by the door saw me. :P
