Have burial do something useful?
« on: July 12, 2008, 07:23:18 pm »

Okay, I'm having a major Problem in my fortress. I accidently killed three dwarves in a brook-related freezing accident, and I'm worried it's going to kick off a tantrum spiral. One of my dwarves is already losing it. Fortunately, I got her locked in her bedroom in time, but still, this is going to suck.

What set her off was "Was forced to endure the decay of a lover recently". What?

When my grandma died, I got sad. I didn't lose it four months later when she was rotting away in her grave. Now, if the dwarf in question dosen't get buried, I can really see "was enraged by the sight of a loved one decaying", but if the dwarf is buried (or otherwise lost to the fortress) this negative feeling really shoulden't happen. As it is, it just encourages us to Chasm/Magma Flow our dearly departed.

This tantrum nonsense is really crazy, BTW. You get angry, you break some stuff, sure, but you don't go bashing your other loved ones' heads in.

Build coffins
Logged
Thief:"Quiet kitty, Qui-"
Cat:"THIEF! Protect the hoard from the skulking filth!"
The resulting party killed 20 dwarves, crippled 2 more and the remaining 9 managed to get along and have a nice party.

They are buried in coffins, in tombs!

Here is my guess on what Burial does

1) Current: They prevent bad moods about a loved one rotting
2) Later: They prevent, either perfectly or increased chance, your dwarves from comming back from the grave

Except that I had a dwarf tantrum because her (buried and coffined) lover rotted.

This is a bug then, coffins stop the decay of a loved one sad thought. I've double checked before to be sure, they do usually work.

Well, possibly they rotted before they were buried, and some other minor thing set them off...

Or possibly they forgot a chunk of him. Could be buried behind rubble or destroyed or something...

But hey, dwarves need beer to work, and get enamored by dining rooms.
