Babies, military, and milk
« on: July 11, 2008, 04:21:40 pm »

I'll put the same disclaimer I put on my other three mass suggestion thread. Those threads can be found here here and here.

I did not check every idea here. If even ONE is original, its worth the extra topic. I also check to make sure at least one is original.

Baby Realism
Babies are all fine and good, and I find them very helpful as a test for my death traps if they happen to wander into one. However, there seems to be no(Noticeable) effect on the dwarves due to the baby, other than the baby needing to be with them all the time. I'd like to see some trouble sleeping for a couple having a baby, because they ARE going to cry. Maybe they need a cloth diaper or something too.

Ice Cream!
This is actually possible, assuming they make the leather sacks thin enough for the task. All you need is flavoring(plant extract?), ice, water, salt, a sack, and some sort of container.  It'd be hard to get all the components I'd imagine, since I very rarely see rock salt, but could produce happy thought.

Direct Military Control
What I'd like to see is, during sieges, the ability to directly control a military dwarf. You choose a military dwarf, you take control of him as though you were in adventurer mode. Of course, if he's the head of a squad, the other dwarves in that squad would follow them like companions in adventure mode, unless doing something like sleeping. Of course, taking throwing off the list of skills would be needed to balance it.

Pre-marital
As is, dwarves get pregnant only after getting married. However, they have DWARVEN MILK available for sale. This would show that dwarven chicks are obviously easier than their behavior in fort mode. As such, why not have kids without a married couple?

Milking Dwarves
As stated above, people SELL dwarven milk, why shouldn't a DWARVEN fort be able to make it?

Dwarven milk doesn't come from dwarves.  It's produced as an extract of purring maggots.

Then why name it DWARF milk? You'd think they'd call it "Purring maggot milk"

Of course, taking throwing off the list of skills would be needed to balance it.

If it was restricted to only during seiges, I'm not sure you could gain enough skill to really make it completely overpowered, since dwarves don't have any base throwing skill in Fort mode unless you get a tantrumer throwing something.

As an aside, I still haven't figured out why throwing things at nothing gives throwing skill.  I'd like to see throwing work like every other combat skill seems to work -- that is, you gain EXP for actually landing blows -- and then make it raise slightly faster.

But that's just me.

Well, if you wall yourself in, and the goblins are still there, you can keep throwing at nothing and  become legendary easy.

It's not DWARF milk, it's dwarVEN.  Milk that you can obtain by trading with dwarves.  Dwarven, as in DWARVEN ARCHITECTURE, which, I hope, is not made OUT OF dwarves.

Speaking of dwarven milk, you missed an ingredient for ice cream.
