Inaccessible areas?
« on: July 11, 2008, 11:48:19 am »

Another thread about pathing issues from me.  I can't seem to get anyone to leave my castle, despite having multiple exit points, any job I needed to be done outside is almost immediately canceled and all jobs around my fortress have to be suspended because my wood stockpiles are outside.  Since I'm still pretty new to the game, I've provided an image of my fortress at it's currents state, because if I was competent enough at this game to accurately explain my situation, I wouldn't have to ask other people how to get outside...

Thanks in advance.

Check your "O"rders. Most likely scenario is that you set your dwarves to stay inside at one point. You should be able to toggle the one at the top between.
1: Dwarves can go outdoors
2: Soldiers can go outdoors
3: Dwarves stay indoors.

Took you less than three minutes to fix a problem I've been having for over 2 hours...

Hm... I think you'll need to patch the wall on the outside of your north entrance, as enemies can move diagonaly as well.

(And pumps along that lower channel could help with the speed of getting your farm/plumbing going.

Nah, just Swedish.*

And I did the same thing once.  :)

Multiple entries = multiple areas you need to defend when the goblins come.

Also, if you want to trade with human wagons, you will need a 3-tile wide path to the trade depot. The humans will still trade with you without that, but only bring a smaller amount of goods.

Multiple entries = multiple exits which must be blocked to keep your bloody stupid dwarfs inside.
Fixed your typo.

On another note, that pic makes me hunger for the 2D version. So... very... flat...
