Early Warning Signs your fortress is doomed?
« on: July 09, 2008, 10:30:14 pm »

My dwarves keep carving tentacle demons, despite the fact that none of them 'likes Tentacle Demons for their corrupt intentions'.

I'm thinking that I might just have some HFS lurking somewhere.

It could be your civilization or group symbol, which is why it's showing up really often.  My dwarves don't carve demons until after exposing the HFS.

An early warning sign would be any dwarf hunting for vermin.  Unless that dwarf is just locked in somewhere and unable to access the food stockpile.

You press the embark button.

Or at least that's the way it should be, IMO.  ;D

Whenever I get bored with the fortress and there's any form of magma or water or a chasm or a tower around, that's usually a sign of impending doom. I either flood the fortress with water/magma, or dump the entirety of the fortress population into a chasm or magma pipe by collapsing a tower on which they all stand.

It is quite fun. I've never had a fortress fall to goblins.

How can I find out if it's my civ/group symbol?

Also, one wonders exactly what kind of civ/group has a tentacle monster as it's symbol...

As for food, don't worry about that. I cheated my arse off, we came with 3,200 individually-wrapped meals of cave spider, and each of them has an accompanying drink in any of four flavors of dwarven booze.

If there is an infinite water source, chances are your dwarves will drown en mass.
