GAH! Water source gone bad

So, I've got an oceanic map. I've got a desalinization tank. The tank worked fine, then I emptied some out and restarted, now the tank won't work and I have NO water source for my aquariums.

 What won't work? The water salty? The pump not pumping? Random fires starting? The Four Horsemen riding into your fort?

The water is salty, the pumping and everything else is working fine.

 Make another pool, keeping in mind all water must touch constructions only. Pump water from the first pool to the second.

 This can lead to a series of pools, kinda like a water purification plant.

NO WATER is touching anything but constructions and the pumps, my confusion is it was working before I emptied it out.

 I'm sure there is an acronym for things that suddenly don't work, but I don't have the time/sleep to research it.

 Sometimes things just stop working for no known reason. I don't know why, probably most people don't know why, but I'm posting what I suggest should be done.

 Heck, perhaps muddy floors make water salty.

Came across this, figured I'd stick some information relevant to what I thought it was about on it...

Dwarves don't seem to drink from water that contains a rotting corpse.

As for the tank, deconstruct/reconstruct in the same spot? I would imagine muddy floors could make water salty again, if they'd been empty. Dunno though.

Its a HUGE tank, it is/was easier to simply make a new tank. Also, there were no corpses in it.

What did it empty into? If the water flowed into a natural area, it probably turned the entire pool of water to salt. Then, when you refilled the tank, it remembered that the previous water was salty and made that water salty too.

It's a really ingenius game mechanic in a bizarro-world way.

It ALL went back into the ocean, not a drop was left in the tank.

Maybe when the non-salt-water-but-still-sort-of-salt-water evaporated from the 1/7 state it left salt behind on the floor? That's my best guess.
