Yeah, that's why it's fitting. :) When I was watching Wall-E recently, I was kinda hoping they would do a play on the "bug in the system" with the cockroach. That guy was damn near indestructible, btw. :)

(not wholly off-topic, but...  I find it fun how well the topic of cockroaches fits in the "bug reports" forum :) )

strangely enough, they're called "bugs" because thats what the first ones were... back when they used vacuum tubes, creepy crawlies got into the systems and caused havoc, hence they are  "bugs".

Vic

That's an urban legend.  The use of "bug" to refer to a flaw in a design predates the computer, and electronics, by a fair margin.  Edison's notebooks mention having "bugs" in the phonograph.

That isn't to say that people working on early computers didn't appreciate the possibility for bad puns.

Computer science puns abound:

WINE: WINE Is Not an Emulator
PINE: Pine Is Not Elm
(ELM: ELectronic Mail)
Lynx: an ASCII web browser (links, lynx, get it? haha)
C, C++, C#: programming language that introduced the ++ (increment) operator.  C was made better, so they incremented the version number.  C++.  Then they made it ring a new note, C# ("cee sharp").
BASH: The Bourne Again Shell.
GNU: GNU is Not Unix
TWAIN: Technology Without Any Interesting Name (it makes your scanner work, alternatively "Thing WAIN")
