No, a "lift" in English is a lift.  A "lift" in American is an elevator.

They're both silly, because that's only half the functionality.

Please tell me you're trying to introduce the word "up-and-down-box" to the world.

Its more an "up-and-down-and-left-and-right-and-forward-and-backward-box" i was thinking about, or doesn't that exist yet? (i come from the future you see)
Personally i like "descender", makes more sense to dwarves anyways.

I've got an old thread around here somewhere called "The Underworld Challenge".  Dig that one up if you want something truly insane.

Ah, thank you.  Yes, that's the one.  An insane amount of work, with a rather impressive result.  It even provides an amazing place to go adventuring in afterwards

I'm suprised none likes the "fill the world with ice" idea, no takers at all?

Create a fortress of nothing but planters, brewers, cooks, and haulers. Your crops will be sweet pods for dwarven syrup underground, sun berries for sunshine aboveground. The dwarves will live in both above and underground constructions. Wall off the access to the outside - you don't need anybody.

Your goal here is to produce lavish meals, dumping the valuable ones down a pit so the dwarves can't get to them. The eventual goal is to figure out what the money cap is, and what exactly happens when you breach it.

Construct a nice, large and recognisable floor picture (at least 10x10 in size) using only megabeast soap, crystal glass and one other material of your choice. In total you can't use less than 20% of any of these three materials.

Your success will be graded by how impressive in size and looks the final picture is.

If you have problems accumulating the necessary rock crystals, remember - you can transfer items between fortresses. It just requires a bit of patience, and a direct control over the guy transporting them.

A lot of people have dane amazing digging feats, underwater fortresses and the like. However, i don't think ANYONE has attempted this, or at least suceeded...

I challenge you to carve a mountain from a mountain and have it hollow so that your dwarves can live inside!

No constructions should be used, its all to be hand carved out of solid rock! Have ingenious devices for defence that are inbuild into the dwarf made mountain! Paths that come out onto the surface of the mountain and then back in! If you can, have a giant magma pool in the middle of the mountain for smelting purposes, or even better, build the mountain over a magma tube and have the top of it open to the skies! Perhaps You could even built defences pointing inward to quell uprisings or to destroy flying opponents!

Think of the possibilities!

Hold on, build a mountain with no constructions, could you clarify here?

I meant that you should dig out what looks like a mountain from an existing mountain and have it mostly if not totally hollow so that it can be lived inside of.

Actually, has anyone done anything like this, excepting castles of course.

Another challenge:

mod dwarves to be aquatic and create an underwater utopia.

I'm told you can't build underwater, so you'll need lots of pumps to build stuff in drydocks before reflooding them.
I recommend a sweetwater lake to prevent being washed away and have drinkingwater at the same time.
Carp infestation optional.
