rock crystal req for crystal glass

this may sound like a noob question, but the wiki doesnt quite cover it...

does the rock crystal required for making crystal glass require it to be in raw gem form, or is cut gem ok as well?    i found a place with magma right next to red sand, and i was wondering if the cut gems i can import will work, or if im limited by how much rough rock crystal is on the map?

Basically glass needs a reboot (or at least a place on the trade screen)
So many young dwarves, screaming for glass that will never come. Tragic.

Screaming for glass has lead to more deaths dying in my fortresses than to being burninated by trogdors.  1 dwarf has met his doom when he demanded glass from me.  and 0 dwarfs have been trogdorfried.
