Bolts on refuse pile can't be moved
« on: July 05, 2008, 12:40:16 pm »

A volley of bolts fired near my refuse pile resulted in a lot of bolts on the pile, not all of them landed on it but many were moved there. The pile is strategically placed for efficiency and having half the space unusable is a problem. I tried disallowing ammunition under the stockpiles refuse menu, then I made another stockpile nearby that only accepted ammunition as refuse. I also made an ammunition stockpile. None of the bolts have been moved and it has been two years. I also designated all of them to be dumped and made a garbage dump but they are still there.

That means the bolts are forbidden, and you must designate them claimed before they can be moved.

then I guess the bug would be that they are taking up space on the stockpile

Ok so what seems to be happening is: bolts get stuck in a corpse (I am using bone and wood bolts so it always takse a few hits) and then the corpse rots on the stockpile. Then on the stockpile is a pile of bones and a bolt. The bones get taken away by the bolt maker, leaving the bolt. The bolt is taking up that spot on the pile and nothing can be put on it. The bolt is forbidden so it never gets moved. This may be deliberate but it seems like a minor bug to me. The workaround is pretty simple though so I guess it's not important.

I can see the benefit of forbidding the bolts, it would be better if the bolts alone didnt take up the square. Technically they are not actually something that the stockpile should hold anyway and they are small enough not to matter.

They are stuck in the gobbo as forbidden.  When the gobbo rots, they fall to the ground.  They are not actually *in* the stockpile, though they do block the square like stone does.

Just mark them unforbidden.

Or so marksdwarves didn't run out with a stack of 1 bolt in their quiver, shoot it, and run back to get another stack of 1 bolt.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

But unfortunately, they don't run back ...
It's to prevent civilians trying their hardest to run through the goblins to pick up every single individual unbroken bolt your defense force fires. Good times ...
