Natural Increase
« on: July 05, 2008, 10:12:14 am »

I plan on making a new fort that expands by natural population increase only. The question I have is, how do I disable immigration and will I need to generate a new world to do so?

To disable immigration, go into the init.txt file (in the init folder) and set the population cap to 10 or so.  You'll still get immigrants the first year, but once the dwarven caravan reports your population as over the pop cap, you won't get any more.  It doesn't seem to work if you set the cap lower.  You don't have to generate a new world, just open DF after you make the change.

If software was real world, then it'd be something equivalent of hitting a nail with a hammer and having a building collapse on the other side of town.

Don't worry people, sometimes -moments occur

The population cap does not prevent conventional pregnancies then, and only prevents immigration waves?
