I just cannot wait for this to be ported to the DS.
Actually, it was picked up to be officially released on the PSP. But that was announced a while ago, so it might not have panned out.
From what I remember, weird stuff happened. The company in question was the same group that made Elf Bowling 1&2 for the GBA, and otherwise failed so hard that Nintendo
refused to give them the DS dev kit. They did annouce a port for the PSP, but...
[1] Although Pixel may or may not have given the project his blessing, I pretty sure he never gave them the source code.
[2] They used fan art on their website, with or maybe without the maker's permission.
[3] They might have been planning to use the AGTP translation without their permission.
[4] Thing got blown way out of purportion and it didn't get straigtened out because of the language barrier.
[5] The company was so incompetent in the first place that I find it hard to imagine they would even port if everything went right.
That's what I remember, but it's been a while so some of the details may be wrong. If you're looking for a port, search for the homebrew DS port. It's not complete yet, but the guy who's making it has Pixel blessing
and the source code, which as official as you can get.
