The game's probably all fine and good, but I can't (or rather, won't) play it because all text that ever appears gets overlapped on the message window. Anyone else encountered that? Any way to fix?

I just cannot wait for this to be ported to the DS.

Actually, it was picked up to be officially released on the PSP.  But that was announced a while ago, so it might not have panned out.

This is so damned weird.  I got a wild hair to play this game again just a few days ago, and am currently stuck in the hard-ending final dungeon.  Holy crap, this game can get Nintendo Hard.

Everything about it is great.  The jumping puzzles are intuitive without being easy, the combat never really gets old (except freaking Sand Zone (fifth time through in as many days)), and I too was truly saddened by what happened to Toroko and King.  Oh yes, I will avenge you King.  On cockroaches.

I remember making a comment in the Spore thread on how Spore is what DF could be if a company picked it up. Could Cave Story be an example of what DF could be(Is?) if a company never gets to it?

Actually, it was picked up to be officially released on the PSP.  But that was announced a while ago, so it might not have panned out.
From what I remember, weird stuff happened. The company in question was the same group that made Elf Bowling 1&2 for the GBA, and otherwise failed so hard that Nintendo refused to give them the DS dev kit. They did annouce a port for the PSP, but...

[1] Although Pixel may or may not have given the project his blessing, I pretty sure he never gave them the source code.
[2] They used fan art on their website, with or maybe without the maker's permission.
[3] They might have been planning to use the AGTP translation without their permission.
[4] Thing got blown way out of purportion and it didn't get straigtened out because of the language barrier.
[5] The company was so incompetent in the first place that I find it hard to imagine they would even port if everything went right.

That's what I remember, but it's been a while so some of the details may be wrong. If you're looking for a port, search for the homebrew DS port. It's not complete yet, but the guy who's making it has Pixel blessing and the source code, which as official as you can get.

You could try reinstalling it from the deluxe package.

Hmm... Have you tried differerent fonts, and such? I really don't know. What operating system are you running, and you're running the English language pack, right? I just don't know. Sorry.

Yep. And an NVidia card. Fiddling with RivaTuner didn't help.

Huh. It looks like it's trying to display all the lines of text at once, rather than letting you skip through them.

Hmm, I think I actually had this bug when I first started playing, but I can't remember how I fixed it.  I think I deleted all the language files and unzipped the translation patch again.
