What is a game then?
Well, a good starting point is:
A recreational activity that has a winning condition, and a non-deterministic outcome.

You can play a game using a toy, but the two classes aren't the same.  Dwarf Fortress is a toy, seeing how big a black bronze tower you can make in Dwarf Fortress is a game.

Anyway, that's my two bits.

*casts resurrect spell*

We should organize some sort of Bay 12 Wesnoth battle. It's a simple game to pick up and play, will probably run on most of our computers, and it's free. Can't get much better than that. Unless it also makes you lunch or something.

So, anybody up to doing this sometime next year, after headache is over?

Its a fun game... but hard for me.

Also, linear campaigns for singleplayer makes rilder :(

Is that a no then? Anybody else?

I especially like how this game's mechanics naturally give rise to certain tactical behavior that other games try to artificially implement. Like Elves keeping to the woods, orcs retreating during the daytime and attacking at night, frontlines appearing, importance of having reserves and patroling. How you can lose an engagement, but properly retreating you can set up a successful counterattack. I've never played it with more than one human player, but having five or more sides could be conductive to some interesting diplomacy and backstabing tendencies.

BAY 12 COMMUNITY WESNOTH GAME
Yes, we are doing it, and yes, it will be glorious.

Say something about when you want it to be; we can work something out. Also, try and give some rough indication of how good you are. I'm new to the game, but I'm not totally incompetent.

Scroll down for list.

I'm interested, but only just heard of the game through this topic, so give me a day or two to check it out. I also seem to be cursed with terrible skill at any kind of strategy game.

For some unknown reason the computer I am using at the moment (and will be for a while) insists on downloading the file at a measly 256 BYTES a second. No way I'm waiting 52 hours for a download that should be instant.

So unless someone can find a non-sourceforge link to the latest (stable, preferably) version, I'm out.

EDIT: Okay, this is getting crazy. The "Internet Explorer has stopped this site from downloading files to your computer" bar is, for some reason, not responding when I click it, pretty much preventing me from downloading the game anywhere. Oh, and Mozilla isn't an option. Any solutions?

EDIT2: Okay, restarted my computer after it started REALLY acting up and everythings fine now, so count me back in.

I'm in. I'm not that good at it, but I have beaten most of the single-player campaigns on easy (the others I got bored with), so I do have significant experience.

EDIT: 10am my time=4pm GMT=not good

I used to play a couple of versions ago, and I was decent at it. I guess I could go for a game, so sign me up.

Don't count Keiseth in unless you've pm'd him and he agreed. That quote in my post was half year old, so he probably doesn't even know about revival of the idea.

there can be up to 9 players, however(obviously) it'd be easier to set up a game with fewer than that.

Game settings: version 1.4.7(latest stable); random map(default setting with respect to land mass, vilages etc.); fog of war - on; shroud - off. (open to discussion)

The question of time:
How about saturday(january the 3rd), 4PM GMT - it'll be 8AM-11AM in the US, 5PM in central Europe.
Post your own thoughts.

About myself: Beaten 'Heir to the throne' on normal difficulty, got stuck half way through on highest setting. Played some one-on-one hot seat battles some time ago.

I should be up at 9ish AM just be sure to post here about an hour or so before it happens.

How good am I.

Only beaten the tale of two brothers campaign on easiest.

Orcish incursion I quit because it had a mission I couldn't beat in the time limit, I can't do time limits, I like to turtle. (Edit figured out how to modify the campaign so I don't have to deal with time limits so Il just do that whenever a scenario annoys me)
