Elves and their feeble threats
« on: July 03, 2008, 11:14:50 am »

So the elves finally came to threaten me about clear cutting trees and are limiting me to 53 trees per year (i think per year).

This obviously cannot happen. So if I were to just clear cut anyways, do they attack me? and if they do, what kind of invasion force are we looking at here?

80 bowmen?

I think they'll send ambushing parties at you, but they'll never attempt a full siege.

Not sure how big of an ambushing party, though. Probably scales with how much you piss them off.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Well, I've always wanted to test out the new fort defenses. Hopefully they will make it interesting.

I don't want to be dissapointed. Then again, I can spice up my zoo with some new 'creatures'.

Let us know if they actually do anything. With nothing sieging us except goblins in the current version I'm not even sure the elves will harass you.

I'm thinking that they might just stop sending caravans which wouldn't really hurt me at all.

I have however selected an entire forest to cut down. If that doesn't anger them into attacking me then nothing will.

If you say "yeah that sounds fair" then they will attack you.

I just killed the elf diplomat, cleared the map of trees out of spite, and started putting elven traders into goblin pits.

I would guess he means pits he dug out and filled with captured Goblins.

Yeah. but getting the goblins into the pits is where I'm stuck scratching my head.

I do have several goblins stuck in cages. They have been there awhile since I don't know what to do with them.

Use zone designation to mark the pit as "a pit" and then assign the goblins to them from the list of creatures within the pit's menu. (Can't remember the key presses, sorry)

So if I choose to pit my goblins that are trapped in cages, do they take them out of the cage to pit them? and won't that get the hauler slaughtered?

hmmm. Could I make him dump all his equip?

I already use this type of thing for my animal infestation issues. It would be the same thing, without the 6 Z drop

The safest way is to build the cages the goblins are trapped in, then hook them all up to a lever. Pulling the lever will let them out.

So there is no way to actually move a cage trap currently occupied by a goblin?

I want to build a huge pit and dump dozens of goblins in there. That way my marksdwarves can get some real practice.

Absolutely you can move an occupied cage.  That's what Animal Stockpiles are for.

Dwarves do have to remove the gobbo from the cage, then chuck them over, and the less time they spend manhandling the gobs the better.  So put the stockpile right near the pit.

Also, I've never even come close to cutting down 53 trees in one year.  What are you people doing with all that wood?
