Oh, you're going DOWN now!
« on: July 02, 2008, 12:40:12 pm »

Said King Urist to the Merchants, as they departed, laughing. Little did they know just how true his words were.

Seven friendly dwarves would soon arrive at each of their towns, smiling and digging and handing out gold... smiling a little too much, perhaps.

So, I want to settle in and then undermine a human village. Any tips?

Two miners, one woodcutter. Actually, you could probably get any wood you need by deconstructing human buildings, so you might just want to get a carpenter. Take their food too by claiming it. Make sure you have at least one military dwarf, as I'm not sure how they'll react to having their stuff stolen. Pack a copper crossbow and some bolts if at all possible. I would suggest leaving the anvil behind and ordering another so you can get plenty of skills.

Any items on the map at embark time count as yours.

You should be able to easily undermine human buildings just by digging ramps underneath them. Leave a support in attached to a lever so your dwarves aren't nearby when the house comes down. The buildings will deconstruct into logs when this happens, giving you more wood than you'll ever need. And the humans won't care.

Okay, some of the humans might go berserk. Or melancholy. Make certain they have a nice big pit to toss themselves into.

There are also some funky happenings when you reclaim a dwarf site where you mined out the humans. All their buildings come back, but I guess they have just rebuilt from the dwarf infestation?

Grr. Their capital building is offering much resistance... it refuses to fall, and yet as far as I can tell it isn't touching any supports anywhere.. must've missed something.

If a corner originally hung off a cliff, there will be a single pillar holding it up.  Check for that.  Also check to make sure there's no floors on the same z-level supporting it.

Dude, just leave the capitol. You can probably use it as a fortress.
