Every once in a while, I'd get a few of these:
Etur Udibag, Mason cancels Store Item in Bin: Job item lost or destroyed.
Etur Kƒkdal„s, Peasant cancels Store Item in Bin: Job item lost or destroyed.
—shrir Tet¢thathel, Miner cancels Store Item in Barrel: Job item lost or destroyed.
Deler B–nemal†th, Metalsmith cancels Store Item in Bin: Job item lost or destroyed.

Does this mean the item he was trying to put in the container was lost, or just that there was no free container to put it in, and my precious item is still safe?

I've been getting those messages, too.  But I just saw the probable reason: a couple dwarves were hauling gems to be stored in a bin, and a third dwarf decided to move the bin from furniture storage to gem storage at the same time.  The gem carriers lost track of the bin while it was being moved.

Yes, when dwarf is carrying an item, it becomes inaccessible to other dwarves. The error message is slightly confusing - should say something like "job item already in use".

I could also lower the priority level of displaying job item lost messages for haul jobs, since you don't initiate those.  Then they wouldn't display by default.

Hmm, I was more worried that I was losing items.  Seeing these messages is actually helpful, as I know I'm short of bins/barrels/bags then.
