Spring Break
« on: March 20, 2003, 12:27:00 am »

The last of my Winter Quarter obligations is complete.  I have about ten days of vacation, during which I can shine in my freedom, much like the hippies of old.

There are a number of game projects underway, including Armok.  I'm going to attempt to divide my time judiciously...  I have no idea what I'll end up with, if anything.  At least things will have progressed on several fronts...

Suggestion: Finish the LCS game first, then put the rest of the time that is over on armok. Screw the other curses games for the moment (no offense shitdemon fans)

I'm going to put some time into Armok and LCS...  and a few other projects.  Armok was the only Bay 12 game people seemed to appreciate until I put up LCS, probably since those are the only two I invested any thought in.  But I'm not through.  The other projects I'm working on aren't intended to be garbage, though it remains to be seen whether they'll turn out well.  I'm having fun working on them, anyway.

Here's what I think I'm doing:

Thurs (today): Project A
Fri: LCS/Project B
Sat: LCS/Project B
Sun: Armok - Finish abilities framework
Mon: Project A
Tues: LCS/Project B
Wed: LCS/Project B
Thurs: Armok - Magic Stuff
Friday: Armok - Magic Stuff
Sat: Armok/Project A
Sun: Armok/Project A

I'm not sure how fast LCS will go.  It depends on how unfinished and rough it is on Wednesday.  I need to be in the right mood for it, because simply making additions without maintaining the Liberal tone would destroy the game...

Any chance of a Conservative Crime Squad in the future?   ;)

The SLA was a good liberal example...  what would the model be for a conservative crime squad?  One of those survivalist militia groups?

It would be great if you made it "Crime Squad" and you could pick your agenda and such...  The game would be nearly as complex as Armok, which is only a bad thing when you think about how much time it would take to code...

One of the other curses games was going to be more mafia/drug/etc. oriented...  the interpersonal gang-organizing part gets very complicated, so it is stalled, but can be salvaged.

I'm almost content to leave LCS alone, but the endgame drags too much, and the kidnapping balance is off.  LCS isn't supposed to be some kind of magnum opus.  It's just a fun little game.  I have one bloated overkill project spiraling out of control.  I don't need any more, and don't have the time in any case.

Most of my game ideas that seem worth writing end up like Armok though...  the temptation to fill them out is pretty strong.  There's no reason to write more derivative trash.  So I think I'm just going to address the particular issues with LCS that bother me, with a little bloating, and call it a game.

Not that I meant to sound negative about LCS:  there's a new post in the Curses forum.  I'm starting LCS now for a few days, as per the chart above.  Since LCS was written in four, I think I can do some real damage.  Suggestions for improvement in addition to the newly posted list are welcome.
