Dwarf hauling problems
« on: May 23, 2008, 11:04:00 pm »

Yeah, got a problem here, don't know why. First, there are leather bins, plump helmets, and some stuff in the trade depot, but they wont take it. There are stockpiles for them, but they just don't haul them. Same goes for the kitchen, workshops, and all the other things. Like there's about 5 or 6 bolts in the craftdwarf's workshop, but they don't take them to the ammo stockpile

Help would be appreciated   :)

Do you have spare dwarves, who have no tasks? If not, try telling one to only do "hauling" in the V->L menu.

Obviously your dwarves are lazy.  To get them moving I suggest taking all those lazy dwarves, put them into a military squad, station them on a drawbridge, and pull the lever that activates the drawbridge.  Guarnteed to get your dwarves moving.

t''s so sad.  It''s as if De Beers as invaded Dwarf Fortress.  I nearly cried when I saw how valued and rare diamonds were in Dwarf Fortress.

1: Make sure the goods in the depot are not marked forbidden (use T to see the contents of a building).

2: Make sure the idle dwarves have all their hauling jobs on. Like he said, V L and scroll up to see them.

3: Try forbidding and exiting the menu, then unforbidding them and exiting. Sometimes that gets them unstuck.

4: Try the same thing with dumping. Your haulers will need "refuse hauling" regardless of the item type. You'll also need an activity zone (i) with garbage dump enabled.

5: Deconstruct the trade depot and see if they start hauling.

6: Try getting them to haul something specific. For example, you probably have stone everywhere: create a 3x3 stone stockpile. If they start hauling, you know the problem is with the building or the items inside it. If they don't move, it might be something wrong with the dwarves themselves.

7: Try turning some other dwarf into a hauler. If he doesn't haul, it's a problem with dwarves in general rather than just those specific haulers.

Oh yeah, they actually use the depot as a stockpile. They brew the plants, craft the leather etc. Really annoying because it's a long way to do it. Or maybe the only way is to remove the depot?
