World map vs. Local map, and swimming across oceans.
« on: June 29, 2008, 04:57:49 pm »

So a couple of things here: How many tiles of local map equals one on the world map?

And has anybody ever managed to swim across an ocean? I tried this the other day, but got bored and gave in to starvation after about half an hour.

I haven't tried swimming across an entire ocean, but I did swim across a small bay once.  Nearly made it, too, then I decided to get cute and try a dolphin leap, swimming into Open Space (W/Up).

48 local tiles equal 1 region tile.
16 region tiles equal 1 world-map tile.
That is 768 local tiles per world-map tile.

I managed a 6-world-tile ocean with my Elf.

I just taped down the 6 key on the numpad and left it for ages.

The buffs I got were awesome; I could swim faster than walking, so in all the rivers and stuff I barreled down them like awesomesauce.

I swam an ocean at one point. Got laggy as heck, but I had a barrel of food to float on.

...
Same way you swim anywhere else.  It just takes a long time, and if you don't have enough food, you can starve to death on the way.
