linking a gear to a lever
« on: June 28, 2008, 08:36:53 am »

i dont know if anyone suggested this or not, but there should be some way of making a gear beside a lever continually flip it back and forth the same way that a dwarf will flip it back and forth when its set to repeatedly pull the lever.

or have a new toggleswitch gear that can be linked like a lever, but cannot be pulled manually, and can be turned off by disconnecting the power?

Pull Lever R never gets anything done.  If you ever put two pull lever tasks one right after the other the dwarf will walk up, pull it twice in immediate succession and walk away.  You connected devices?  Oh, they act as if the lever was only pulled once.

Pull Lever R never gets anything done....

This is false, I've had levers set to repeat all the time for my 'death chambers' so the spikes would keep going up and down. Worked fine.

No, it's true. For floodgates at least. I've lost a fortress because, when attempting to fill up a well with a quick burst of river water.

Maybe if you just put pull lever twice, but on repeat it works fine.

That would make sense actually.
How long is the gap between switching a lever and whatever happening?

Depends on the quality of the mechanisms. I guess if the lever is pulled again before the linked objects react, the system bugs out.

If you're clever, there's ways to make pressure plates and water do this.
